Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Martvili Canyon is a breathtaking natural wonder. Paddle through its emerald waters on a boat, gazing upwards at the towering limestone cliffs adorned with lush greenery. The tranquil silence is occasionally broken only by the melodic chirping of birds and the gentle gurgling of cascading waterfalls. For an adrenaline rush, consider the zipline that soars over the canyon, offering a truly exhilarating perspective. While it may come at a slight premium, the experience is well worth it.

After paying your entry ticket, you are quicky processed by unfriendly guys who hand you a life-jacket, then you join the queue until they bring up another rubber dinghy in which you are roughly pushed. If you're in the front you are handed a paddle and expected to row (if you take a break along the way to admire the waterfall, the guy in the back yells at you to keep rowing). The boat trip proceeds through the canyon for about 300 meter long section of the Abasha river, up to the section known as the Dadiani's Bath. It is pretty there, but you are not allowed to linger ; turn around and head back, because the next lot is waiting.
Then go up to the visitor center and walk a good 500 m long limestone-paved tourist route with two bridges and three canyon viewing platforms and to the historic Dadiani trail to view some gorgeous nature and water-rapids. The river and puddles used to be the private bathing area for the Dadiani Noble Family. You can still see the 30 steps staircase that these aristocrats used.
Word of caution ! The path is made out of limestone. When they are wet (which they always are because of the spray of the river below), they are slippery as ice. I witnessed several people take a bad tumble.

In fine weather the Canyon will allow you to explore and admire its marvels. It is tucked away 50km north-west of Kutaisi but worth the one hour drive.

This is basically a 15 min. boat ride. We tube on a river in Texas that is spring fed and looks just like this one but has chutes and is much longer and is more fun.

It is good canyon with full of water and small waterfalls. It is not big and takes maximum 25-40 minutes to pass through it by walk. There was no boat ride available when we visited due to high pressure of water. It is worth visiting, if it is on the way of your travel to Batumi from Tbilisi.

Before traveling to this place I read the reviews online about the pushy unofficial guides who try to sell you tours at ridiculously inflated prices, but I wasn’t prepared for just how aggressive these guys actually are.
As soon as these scammers spot a tourist in a rental car approaching they step out into the middle of the road and with their frantic hand gestures make it seem like they’re helpfully directing you into the carpark.

As soon as I turned off the road into their carpark I realised my error and attempted to turn around and leave.
But before I could leave two men ran over to my car and tried to block me from leaving. When I told them I wasn’t interested in any of the tours they were offering and just wanted to go to the official car park they became extremely aggressive.

The guy who had waved me into the carpark demanded payment for parking. I only turned into their carpark because he had made it seem like I had no other choice, I hadn’t even stopped the car, I’d been in the carpark less than 30 seconds… and now this guy wanted to extort a parking fee from me!
When I refused he reached in through the window and grabbed me by the throat. As I kept driving he lost his grip and I got away.

Later I found out that another young tourist couple, who were in the carpark and witnessed what happened to me, immediately paid for a tour with these scammers purely out of fear of also being attacked if they refused.

This canyon is nice but it’s certainly not worth the hassle of having to endure the bullying tactics of these tugs. Until the authorities take action to remove these aggressive scammers my advice would be to avoid this place.

Tip: if you insist on going try to go on a busy day. I visited on a dull damp day when there was only one other tourist couple there. If there had been more tourists around I’m sure I wouldn’t have been attacked - I’m sure these guys are smart enough to know that being seen assaulting tourists obviously won’t be very good for business.

Gorgeous taking a boat trip through the canyon, although it was only 10 minutes due to water being rough. (This is the easy water, suitable for kids, Not rafting). You get a life jacket, after that you get to explore the waterfalls, little creeks and beautiful views. It has quite a few stairs so keep that in mind for older people.

This was pretty but very small. It only took us 15 minutes to see the whole thing. Not worth the cost or the distance. If it’s on your way, maybe you could stop, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to see it.
