A bridge between two countries
Jul. 2020
This bridge connects Esztergom (Hungary) and Sturovó/ Párkány (Slovakia). It was built in 1895, it is about 510 m long, 14 m high and 12m wide. It has a rich history and it suffered a lot during the war. Now you can go over it on foot or by car to the other side. It was a great experience for us and the view is fantastic.

Photogenic bridge

Great view of the Basilica. Bridge itself very photogenic, even so at sunset. You can go to Slovakia on foot in a few minutes if you want to cheat and “tick” another country.

Interesting bridge worth seeing up close
Jan. 2020 • Family
Named after the Archduchess Valerie, daughter to Franz Josef 1, and born in Budapest, the bridge was completed in 1895 but suffered much over the years as as an incomplete bridge with the central three spans missing since WWII. In 2001, the missing sections were rebuilt and we enjoy freely walking over it now. It’s very interesting to see the modern welded sections up against the 19th C riveted sections.

It’s a pretty steel girder bridge that offers great views back to the Basilica and across the width of the Duna.

Had to take the view
Dec. 2019 • Solo
The view is the Cathedral of our Lady of Assumption and Saint Adalbert needs to be seen from the Slovakian side. It is also neat to cross countries so easily by walking on the bridge. Fully recommended

Cross the bridge into Slovakia to see the Hungarian cathedral
Jul. 2019
Esztergom is the seat of the Primate of the Roman Catholic Church in Hungary.

When Esztergom Cathedral was built, it was situated well inside Hungary. Today, however, Esztergom is right next to the border with Slovakia. So, in order to get the best view of Hungary's top cathedral, you have to cross the Danube from Esztergom in Hungary to Štúrovo (Párkány) in Slovakia.

Good view and casual walk
Aug. 2019
The Maria Valeria Bridge spans the Danube joins Sturovo in Slovakia and Esztergom in Hungary. It's a casual walk or you can join the train ride across the bridge. It gives you a good view of Esztergom Cathedral on top of the hill. Sturova is a small town and everything is within walking distance. The lookout point gives a panoramic view of the Danube and Esztergom.

Great views and connection to Slovakia
Sep. 2019 • Family
We passed under the bridge with boat from Budapest, and late afternoon we passed on foot from Hungary to Slovakia. Great views back to the Basilica and castle in Esztergom.
After a visit in Slovakia (Green Pub) we went back in the dark evening. We enjoyed the Basilica, castle now with lights making them visible. Unfortunately the lights on the bridge were not on (?)

Build bridges not walls!
Sep. 2019
A must-do when in Esztergom just so you can say you have set foot on Slovakian soil. Reading the little history sign is also interesting and unless you cross this bridge you will not get the best views possible of Esztergom basilica.

A very interesting experience
Aug. 2019 • Couples
As part of our private Danube Bend tour, we were driven across this bridge from Hungary to Slovakia to get the best possible view of the Esztergom Basilica. It felt very strange to cross from Hungary to what was once part of Czechoslovakia, having visited the other former part of Czechoslovakia, the Czech Republic, the previous year.

Really nice view of the Danube river and the basilica. Have a stroll, cross to Slovakia and take some mementos.
