- bafa77Cologne, Germany425 contributionsLokon touring with IchyWhen traveling the Minahasa highlands, I was looking for a guide with a scooter to show me around a day. Luckily I was advised Ichy who picked me up in the hotel lobby on time and was a kind companion for my day. We went up Lokon volcano at first and afterwards also visited Mahawu volcano and lake Linow. For me, Lokon was definitely most impressive and worth a visit! After our third stop, Ichy had furthers ideas which places we could visit additionally but honestly, I was tired and happy with my adventures so far. :) For anyone traveling solo and looking for a nice guy to be guided around, I'd like to recommend Ichy. He's friendly, punctual and a save driver. His English is sufficient to understand any question of a traveler and if he's not sure how to answer properly, he's good in dealing with Google translate on his phone. ;) You can contact Ichy via WhatsApp on +62 853-9781-5087.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 22 June 2024
- BasSoest, The Netherlands108 contributionsBeautiful Hike to Volcano Edge, with GuideWalked with Guide to crater rim. Without Guide is also fine, from Tomohon that is two hours walk. Guides usually start (short car ride) at the point that it is still an hour walk: easy walk over rocks and stones to the crater rim. With a nice view of the active volcano. Continuous smoking and smelling. You can go around the crater rim for three quarters of an hour with a view of Bunaken. Further up to the top you seem to take a few more hours: goes more difficult through tall grass and very tall grass. Guide Jotje reacts quickly, speaks good English and knows how to make the trip alive with his knowledge. Adjusts the walking pace to the kids and shoots everyone until their camera is full or their battery is empty. Try to go as early as possible in the morning (06:00 - 07:00), then it is clearest and obviously less hot.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 22 July 2024
- Nam Quoc N3 contributionsMount Lokon, TomohonMy family and I had an exceptional experience with Mr. Jotje, a local guide specializing in Lokon Volcano and the attractions around Tomohon in northern Sulawesi. Mr. Jotje is highly professional and goes above and beyond to ensure the best possible experience for his clients. We even requested an airport transfer at the extremely early hour of 3:30 am, and he arrived 20 minutes ahead of time, making sure we were all awake and ready to depart from our resort. I highly recommend his services if you're looking for a reliable and flexible tour guide who can plan every detail of your stay in Tomohon, allowing you to enjoy the breathtaking nature and attractions with complete peace of mind. You can reach Mr. Jotje on WhatsApp at +62 895 1550 7588.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 14 August 2024

We loved our trek up Mount Lokon with Mr Jotje (contact via WhatsApp +62 895-1550-7588 he responds very quickly!), who shared lots of learnings about the rocks and the volcano and the best way up (and the best views). Though it would be possible to do alone, like many places in Indonesia there’s no signage at all (and we’d already gotten lost the day prior going to Kali Waterfall) so we felt much more at ease with Jotje showing us the path through the farms to get there and then up the track and around the crater. Jotje then added on a visit to Lake Linow which had super cool geyser type pools. Very friendly; great English, lovely to chat to.
For the volcano itself, it took about 1 hour each way at a pleasant pace, really quite interesting walking over volcanic rock and spectacular views at the top. Really the top thing to do in Tomohon. There were kids going up with families too, no problem. We went at 6.30am which I would recommend - by the time we came back down around 9am it was getting much warmer.
Must do in Tomohon!

We had a nice half day trip with Jotje. He took us to the volcano, the volcanic lake and the waterfall, which we enjoyed very much. It was perfect for a half day trip and we really enjoyed the nice landscape!
Jotje knows a lot about volcanoes. If you ask him, he can explain some things about the volcano. He also knows when it is safe or not to go there. We were happy that he took us to the volcanic lake, instead of us going alone, as there are some pools with boiling water that you need to avoid when walking.
Jotje speaks english. He makes a lot of pictures (for us even a bit too much selfies) and asked us a couple of times to write a review. He is nice and very reliable.

I was in Manado with colleagues on a business trip and decided to take a day trip to the Volcano. Looking at Trip Advisor we saw the recommendations for Jotjie and decided to get ahold of him through WhatsApp (+62 895-1550-7588). Booking was quick and easy.
On the day of the tour Jotjie arrived early with his driver at the Sheraton Four Points and we started our trek. Both were very friendly and Jotjie spoke great English. We started with about an hour hike up the volcano and on the way up he gave us a lot of great info about the area. The wind occasionally blew sulfur clouds our way so just turn around and avoid getting it in your eyes (stings a bit).
After that we went and got local food at a good restaurant and continued on to some hot springs and a sulfur lake. It’s rainy season and a crazy storm opened up on our way to the waterfalls, so we decided to pass on that part of the tour. He took us by the large Jesus statue on the way back and the fun tour was over.
If you have time in Manado I would definitely recommend seeing the volcano and using Jotjie. As everyone else has said he is an Awesome guide and it was great having for the Volcano. The path wasn’t always totally clear so it was nice having someone who has been doing these tours for 30 years.

Jotje Lala was our guide to the Lokon Volcano. He was a great guide! The volcano just opened again and we were the third party to go there with him.
We combined the tour with a visit to the market in Tomohon, lake Linow and geiser, lunch at a beautifull place in the ricefields and a visit to the Telu waterfall.
A great day!

I took a day tour of Tomohon and Minahasa highlands with Guide Jotje Lala in October 2022. The highlight of the tour was the hour long trek up Mt. Lokon to see the caldera. The volcano is still active and the trek was along a rocky path formed from lava from prior eruptions. Jotje is very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We also visited Lake Linow and the Tekaan Telu waterfall, all very memorable. You can reach Jotje on whatsApp. +62 895-1550-7588.

We visited Lokon Vulcano with Guide Jotje Lala in August 2022. It was great and Jotje was very friendly and helpful! The hike was doable for the girls (6 and 8), Jotje helped them at some of the more slippery parts. We decided to leave at 6am, skipping sunrise, but still beautiful, and reached the krater around 7:30am. We then visited the amphi theatre and Lake Linow (sulphur lake). We were back ahead of the afternoon rain. Jotje is a great guide, speaks English and a bit of Dutch (nice for the kids). He even voluntarily accompanied us to the Tomohon Flower Festival. You can reach him easily trough WhatsApp. +62 895-1550-7588.

Lokon volcano is a must see when you’re in Manado, especially when you have a wonderful guide - ours is Jotje.
Picking us up at 5.30am we managed to hike to the crater before it got too busy or hot! The view was definitely worth the small hike. Jotje was very cautious as it is an active volcano, hence reminding us not to linger for too long. But definitely enough time to take many photos. Oh! He’s also took many pictures as we were climbing.
Then off to the waterfall and lake linow.
Definitely an activity filled tour and would recommend Jotje (+62 895 15507588); watsapp
