Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful lake not far away from Tomohon city, the road to reach the lake was not good and very narrow but very nice view, village, cloves plantation and more amazing was the steams with smell of sulfur came out from the ground at some places as well as on the lake as it is a volcanic lake or volcanic crater actually. Really nice place!

there is only one cafe to enjoy the lake. We pay an entrance ticket for around US$2. the ticket can be exchange for a cup of coffee or tea.
there is no activity you can do except eating, drinking some hot drinks and enjoy the view.

I'm from Finland where we have thousands of lakes. So for me, this was "just a lake". At the day time, when it was overcast, the lake didn't look any different then any other lake. No weird or changing colors.
That being said, the location is beautiful. If you just want to chill out and have a cup of coffee in the cafeteria by the like, this is the place for you. It was Chinese new year when I was here and the place was crowded. Selfie stick mayhem!
Entrance fee was 25 000 rupiahs, including coffee.
All in all, it is a pretty location, but it just didn't fill my expectations.

Lake Lindau presents itself as lake full of geothermal activities with several colours of water. However there is only light green water and on the edge you can see some bubbling water and a little steam. It may be a nice place to have a cup of coffee if you don't mind the crowds of people but if you are looking for a fascinating geothermal phenomenon you should go to Lahendong, some 5 kilometers down the road to Tomohon. Besides offering green water, bubbling mud pools and steam they only charge 3.000Rp (including coffee and baked bananas) instead of 30.000Rp including coffee). I was sorry to go there and gave my coffee ticket to a large family that was just coming in.

Linow lake is amazing lake with its various color changed every time, typically green. Must be visited while you are in Manado, it's worth!
It takes about 1,5 hours from Manado city climbing to Tomohon area.

A nice place to have coffee and snacks by the lake. The entrance ticket was IDR 25,000 includes free coffee. The popular snack here is Pisang goreng with sambal Roa (banana fritters with Roa chili) perfect to enjoy the view and chill breeze.

As can be seen in the reviews, it is possible to get to the other side of the lake and see the actual sulfur pools and boiling mud. However, until now, nobody provided a good description on how to get there.
Since this is not directly clear, I provide a clear course, including map to get there (see picture) . It took us three tries and a close look on google earth to find the road so this should help a lot.
Assuming you start from the crowded touristy restaurant, one needs to climb the hill where a resort is under construction, onbe should not follow the lower paths along the lake side as these will end to soon. On top of the hill a asphalt road which later turns into a gravel path can be seen. By following this one gets to the interesting sulfer sources.

There is a saying " when in Rome, do as the Romans do "
And when you were in Linow Lakes, do as what Manadonese do, namely, having Banana Fritters with Sambal (Chillies) while having a cup of Coffee or Tea, and this is a Great Experience for me and my families.
The Lake was amazing with 3 colors and the weather was perfect as Linow Lake was located in the highland.
On top of that, the people of Manadonese (Minahasa Tribe) was known for their openness to welcome the visitors and all the way all we received was a great reception and warmest welcome.
So, stop by in this great place and you'll enjoy a real taste of being a Minahasa Tribe (by eating banana fritter with sambal roa - chilies)
