Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful, gorgeous beach but we got viciously robbed. We were 5 feet from our car and must have left it unlocked for a short time, but someone came in and took 3 backpacks and a purse in the blink of an eye--iPads, computers, passports, cards, cash, medicine, gone in a flash. We deliberately went somewhere where we could see our car and were totally shocked.

I really do regret having to write this review, especially after having been visiting this area for 15+ years. But I think that travelers should be aware.

Yes. The beach is relatively undiscovered until recently. The sunsets are magnificent. But CR has obviously determined that Bejuco is the next hot spot (unlike Manuel Antonio which now is a dumpster fire.) The roads to Bejuco have been paved and bridges re-built. Weekends are chaos now.

Truth time. Most Ticos are sweet folks trying to get by. But sadly, many have become accidental thieves just waiting for an opportunity to relieve visitors of their electronics and funds. I'm an experienced traveler, but have lost much $ over the years and this last trip 3 cell phones and an Ipad. It happened quickly. The thief even faced my little 11 y/o boy. Fortunately, my son was not hurt in this interaction.

My suggestion: stay somewhere else and go there to see the best sunsets. Lock everything in the car trunk.
So sad. But please, please hear my words.

We stayed at a near by hotel, and played on this beach every afternoon. The gentle grade of the beach allows you to walk well out into the water, and still keep your feet on the ground. The south facing shoreline made for gentle waves to play in. The sand is soft and fine. And best of all, there are absolutely no crowds.

Bejuco beach is a brown sand wide beach fringed by masses of coconut palms and vegetation. It is flat and great for walking. There are loads of shells washed up by the tides, so it’s fun for collecting shells. The water is great for surfing, bogey board surfing and jumping waves. Because of the rip tides and/or strong current and the constant wave action it is not good for swimming. However it is shallow enough and you can safely walk out to waist height and enjoy standing in the wave action, jumping over waves or letting them course by you.

We visit this beach a couple times a year and continually have great experiences. The beach has always been pretty clean - water didn't reek like in California, so that was an added bonus right there. The Bejuco beach offered me so much serenity this last time as the breeze blew through my hair it removed all the negative thoughts leaving me feeling refreshed. Vacationing at this spot continues to be a hit each and every time for my family. Once my family leaves, we immediately start planning our return visit. This beach is normally very quiet and for anybody who wants to have fun and enjoy themselves, just be cautious of riptides. As riptides are in every ocean, but if you know your own boundaries & strengths, demonstrate those as such & you will truly enjoy yourself beyond words. There’s no better place to watch a sunrise or sunset than at Bejuco Beach.

There are many beautiful beaches in Costa Rica, but this one is one of the best. It looks much like all the adjacent beaches which run for many kilometers uninterrupted; the only difference is that it is accessible easily from the highway and there is a community with a neighborhood watch, growing in momentum, as well as plans for even better security and a lifeguard program. There are three secured communities in Bejuco that host thousands of tourists every year, but the beach still remains almost empty most times --- almost like a private beach. The beach is a cinnamon sand with no rocks at all! The local Costa Rican population are trying very hard to make their beach better in every way since tourism to the beach produces, directly or indirectly, almost all of the jobs in the area.

We've been coming here for years now. Used to be mostly empty but with the recent developments in the area there are more people now. Still, LOTS of room though. There is a lifeguard now- which I guess is a good thing. The rip currents can be bad so be aware. Definitely a gorgeous Beach!!

Playa Bejuco is noted for its rip tides (but then so many other pacific beaches here seem to be). It is a massive beach with the most amazing sunsets - great for surfing and great for wading.

This beach is great for older kids and adults. Lots of waves and a pretty strong riptide that they warn you about. We had boogie boards and had a great ime. You can park along the beach in the shade too. Had great milk type snow cones that we bought from a local vendor too. Lots of Costa Rican families here.
