The Augustusburg Palace (also called Brühl Palace) was built in the 18th century on the ruins of a medieval castle as a residence of the Cologne Elector and Archbishop Clemens August.
The palace is one of the most significant German Rococo buildings; the combination of...More
You should absolutely visit this schloss. One of the first in Rococo style. The young female guide ( only guided visits are allowed) gave very ( short but clear) information. Especially the entrance is overwhelming. Together with the gardens and the other schloss it is...More
I'm a regular visitor to historic buildings, this one was a great surprise - more spectacular on the inside than it looked from the outside. I loved the false Marble Staircases, and state rooms. Well worth the guided tour, and expect to walk to the...More
This is a wonderful place to see a UNESCO site that brings back the life style of the royalty of an era gone by. The restoration work is wonderful and the tour guides are knowledgeable and share interesting insights about the place and the people...More
Fantastic building with rich historical connections, I'd stumbled across an article regarding Augustusburg whilst looking for places to see whilst in Köln.
The only minor gripe, which is why I haven't scored them 5 stars is for their payment facilities in Falkenlust (the hunting lodge,...More
This palace is beautiful . There are 3 elements to this attraction including the main palace , hunting lodge and gardens . The house tour was very well done . There was a clear script but the guide answered all our questions . The hunting...More
The Schloss is remarkable. Gives a great opportunity to understand the never-satisfied need for power and fame. Very rich Rokoko style. Too rich! But fascinating to observe how many ways one can take in order to idealize and praise his family status and his Power...More
Beautiful castle and very nice garden where you can see the importance of symetry in this kind of design and architecture.
The rooms are very well kept and richly ornated. The guided tour was short and lively.
You can NOT take pictures inside the castle...More

We did a Rhine cruise with Viking last June & did the walking tour of Cologne in the morning & the Bruhl palaces in the afternoon on the extra tour. We enjoyed the Cologne walking tour but could have probably done with a little more time in the magnificent cathedral. However we would not have wanted to miss the Bruhl palaces which were magnificent. Fantastically decorated inside. Photography was not allowed inside the buildings but you can buy an excellent guide book in English which has lovely pictures in it without totally blowing the budget. If you love architecture don't miss these palaces they are really something special. Whatever you decide I hope you enjoy your cruise.
