If you ever drive through the village of Aurland, do stop off for while in the centre and see if the church on the corner is open. Even if it's not, the churchyard is generally a blaze of colour. Cross the road and pop down...More

A white stone building , located just beside the bus stop where you can catch the bus to Flam. Quiet, serene church in the centre of Aurland. We could climb upstairs and took pretty photos. Loved the stained glass window. This church has been around...More

I saw this church on a short side trip up from Flåm. I really liked it. Peaceful and relaxing. Well worth a look.

This is a rare and tranquil tranquil find. A place that would not be a bad place to rest your bones for eternity. The location is in the center of town but is still very peaceful. The church property has a historic and charming cemetery...More

This is a very simple and relatively large church with very simple design. It is in the center of the village and it is surrounded by a well maintained and peaceful cemetery. The inside is also very peaceful and mystic, with good stained glass.

The largest such in Norway, we stopped and visited on the way back to Flam from Osterbo Mountain Farm, an excursion from our Viking Ocean Cruise. Dating back to the 13th century, this is a must see and not often found on a tourist itinerary.

The main parish church in the Aurland district is small, but impressive early Gothic building made from a white stone. It was built at the beginning of the 13th century and completely restored in the 19th century. Great sight in the wonderful surrounding!

Like most of the churches we saw in Norway this one is quite simple and in its simplicity it belies its age.

Also called the Sogne Cathedral, this early 3th century church was built privately, and is beautiful in its simplicity, in and out. Thankfully, though it dominates the center of the town, it doesn't get a huge number of tourists. As it is, the church is...More
