Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We arrived at the cellar door tasting room of Tenuta Montauto in the Maremma di Toscana DOC north of Rome after 26 hours of travelling and little sleep. Bleary eyed and compressed, I perked up considerably when we decided to see if a spur-of-the-moment tasting was possible at Tenuta Montauto enroute to our agriturismo at Saturnia.

Arianna graciously invited us in and provided an attentive and generous tasting.  The property was busy that day as harvest had started for some of the white grapes.  It was an epic tasting of seven
wines, and a beautiful Vermouth.

There was no shortage of extremely drinkable and enjoyable wines at Montauto - including the Bianco di Pitigliano, a blend of mostly Trebbiano with Grechetto and Chardonnay (70/25/5), and a deliciously saline Vermentino with white flowers, pear and white peach blossom.

Tenuta Montauto makes an excellent stop outside of Rome for those staying in, or passing through, the Maremma.

Kristina helped us sample wines and was very helpful. Although Kristina is fairly new to the winery, she was very helpful and educated us on the wines. The wines were excellent and very refreshing on a lovely day.

Small company located in the midst of splendid nature that produces excellent labels. We tasted a pure Sauvignon coming from particularly suitable vineyards immersed in the nature of the Maremma, a delicate and authoritative Ciliegiolo and a pure Pinot Noir of good character and balance. To conclude this interesting tasting, a plus from the cellar: a truly remarkable totally Tuscan Vermouth! Filippo and Arianna were really welcoming. It was very pleasant to converse with them about the world of wine.

Very poor reception and service. We booked the wine tasting through our AirBnb. There wasn't really a reception. There was actually no one there to serve us. At the last minute the owner found someone to look after us. Then everything happened very quickly. He opened a kind of map and explained the wine region to us in 2 minutes. We didn't dare step outside. Then we were given glasses and within 10 minutes 5 wines were served. We were then supposed to drink them one after the other and rate them. Of course it's about selling wine, that's why I'm there. But when I buy I also want to experience something and have positive emotions, especially if it's a luxury item. The seller has to make an effort. When it comes to vital things, I don't care. The wine tasting and the talking were over very quickly and then it was time to look at the shelves and take the wines we wanted to buy. Afterwards there was a huge argument in Italian while we were there. The stupid thing is, I understand a little Italian. The owner was upset that we were asking so many questions and taking so long. The young man who served us was very embarrassed. He was very nice and courteous but the boss is really nice. I then just bought something for around €100 because I really thought it was too stupid. I also bought another white wine on the spot and drank it there, leaving €20-30 on the table. I didn't want to pay the boss any more. All in all, nice area, nice staff but the boss is a total disaster. She needs to be fired.

We found this cellar by chance on the road that led to the farmhouse where we stayed. The location is nothing short of wonderful, surrounded by nature; in the tasting room a large window overlooks the surrounding panorama. Beautiful wine tasting experience combined with a platter of local products. Filippo is very friendly and competent. The key rings and canvas bag are very welcome. Super recommended!!
