A real walk through the history of cars and motor vehicles. All very nicely preserved and really well displayed. Also on display some interesting museum pieces, a few really well displayed aeroplanes and many motorcycles. Absolutely worth a visit.

The price is great and you cannot fault the exhibits. I visited 30 years ago and apart from a change around of vehicles little has changed. It would benefit from a few chairs to sit on as you go around (what about making some out of car seats?) some quirky signs and old car advertising posters, and a water cooler.... More

Len Southward certainly deserved his Knighthood. In the New Zealand depression he decided to restore some old cars to provide employment to local men. The end result is a collection of over 600 classic cars from the world over. And what a unique collection it is. We spent two hours and could easily have stayed longer. If you like classic... More

Beautiful lawns and grounds surround the equally beautiful building. The variety of cars on display was the best I've ever seen. Then there were the other vehicles, toy vehicle displays and other surprises. For a change, the cafe and shop did not try to rip-off a captive clientèle. Prices were very reasonable and the outside area was very pleasant in... More

There were far more cars than I thought there'd be, two floors and a mezzanine. Lots of the usual classics, but also kooky cars, record-breaking cars, matchbox cars, bicycles, motorbikes and planes.

Southward Museum is world class. The variety and quality of the cars is almost unbelievable. Brought back memories of cars my father used to own and others he would have loved to have owned! New Zealand seems to have a great appreciation of beautiful things, this museum exemplifies this.

The wide range of vehicles on display is amazing. Some of the displays are "as found" to give an idea of the work involved in restoring some of the exhibits.
