Back again after we did this about 6 months ago. It was raining and we had just finished the shark dive. Take a walk along the coast, but did the most southern part of the South Island at Slope Point, but this is a much better place for pictures.

We happened to be there in the afternoon when the sky was moody grey and white, the water a deep blue and the sun peaking through from the west. Gave us perfect footage. Yes the parking space is small but with people/groups coming in just for photo ops there was a good turn over of car parks.

I have wanted to come for many years and finally made it. It did not disappoint. Loved the signpost. It was a clear sunny day. Well worth coming the extra distance from Invercargill.

Great to know that I've been there and done that. Would be good if there were picnic tables so that people can stop longer. Car park area is quite small and there were lots of vehicles there when we arrived. So it was just a photo stop and then we went down the road and stopped by the memorial for lunch.
There is a restaurant there though.

Nearly the end of New Zealand. A few people stated that they did not know some of the places the sign pointed to. Kumakaya is in Japan. I would say the North is better than the South, but well worth a visit. Really nice walk along the water, either direction. Go East to the lighthouse and the chain and the other to follow the coast with amazing views of Stewart Island.

This is one of those places where you GOTTA be photographed hugging the sign. Take warm clothes if there is a southerly blowing

The signpost at Stirling Point in Bluff, NZ marks the start/finish of the Te Araroa (New Zealand's Trail), the 3000 km trail that connects the southernmost point in the South Island to Cape Reinga, the northernmost point in the North Island. The signpost also shows the mileage to New York, London, and other major cities of the world. Just a few feet away is an impressive Maori sculpture, a metal chain link structure leading to the sea. Very cool!
