Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were driving from Skopije for a day trip into Kosovo with our driver/guide. He suggested we make a small detour to see a special "treat' along the way. It turned out to be the painted mosque, and was one of my favorite attractions in 3 weeks of travel through the Balkans.
The weather was perfect, sunny and comfortable for early May (around the 9th, I think) and being early in the season, there were not very many visitors. In season, I heard the many bus loads of tourists can greatly detract from appreciating the beauty of this small gem. The outside is charming, but somewhat typical of a Macedonian stone mosque, but once you enter the mosque, you can immediately see the difference. The walls and ceiling is totally covered in lovely Ottoman inspired paintings and designs of all colors. Upon reflection, however, you can also begin see the influence of European, almost Tyrolean or Bavarian designs. I found this quite unique, having lived in Germany for a number of years.
Visitors will need to remove shoes outside, and ladies will need to cover their heads. The mosque conveniently offers a hat stand with scarves hanging just outside the entrance for women to borrow, but it is best to bring your own. A scarf comes in handy not only for mosque visits, but also to wrap around your neck, as visits in May can sometimes be slightly chilly.
Hint: travel in May, BEFORE the Balkans become overrun with tour buses in high summer season!

This mosque welcomes outside visitors. The artwork has been refurbished and is beautifully done. There are people there who will answer your questions.
This is worth a visit.

One of the most beautiful and unique mosques I have ever seen. Definitely worth seeing. Tetovo is not far from Skiopje and easy to get to by car.

I have never seen a mosque like the painted mosque built by the daughters of a local pasha to celebrate his life in around 1485. I couldn't work out if this was the original building or a replica because the English translation wasn't clear. A must see if visiting Tetovo as there is little in the city of architectural merit. This is as beautiful inside as it is outside.

The most unusual and beautiful mosques I've seen. It looks like a house of cards. Beautifully painted, very peaceful, very special place. Interesting history behind it.
We came in November on a Sunday and we were the only tourists which made it even more special. I can imagine it'll be busier during peak season. A must see regardless.

This mosque is really quite stunning. It’s a small historic building set in a delightful courtyard and beautifully decorated. In a town that is generally fairly uninspiring it stands out as something quite special. One word of warning, both male and female visitors need to be properly dressed, no shorts of bare shoulders.

I’ll be travelling to Albania, Macedonia and Kosovo in October and I’ve decided to take a taxi early morning specially as my guide said this isn’t part of the itinerary to see the mosque interior and exterior design. Is there an entrance fee and is the mosque open early morning to see.

Mohammad Chachia: It is worth going. The guide that you hired should be able to tell you the opening hours! We went in the morning but not very early. No entrance fee. Good luck. Trek-Always
