May was a perfect time to visit the island. Puffins galore and carpets of beautiful campion and bluebells. Weather may be a significant factor however, as well as season, as island exposed and walking could be difficult and treacherous if a stormy day.It still is quite a test of fitness as some of the paths can be hard going. To... More

We visited Skomer Island in late April. We saw the puffins but not as much as I hoped because, after two 2 days of bad weather, the day we went to the island the prefered to stay at sea. But for that reason it was much more fun: you had to find and spot them! Many other birds were seen,... More

There are lots of positive and great things about Skoma there are a few areas where pointentially things need changing. There is no advance booking, which while I was OK, I understand that some days the trips are sold out very quickly. I only had booked two nights in a local hotel for my trip so would of not been... This is a great place to visit but it pays to choose your time of year and weather carefully. Spaces on the boat are first come basis each day however you do not have to queue --you get a "boarding card" on arrival--so for example you need to arrive about 0830 for the 1000hrs boat in May. Do consider joining... More

I didn't want to leave! This island is very very special. We were fortunate to see Peregrines, Kittiwakes, Razorbills, Wheatears, Greater Blackback Gulls, Choughs, Ravens, Skylarks, Guillemots, Canada Geese, Fulmars, Ganets, Wagtails more Puffins than I ever thought possible and the crowning glory for me, the short eared owl who gave a delightful exhibition for 20 mins quartering the bluebells... A truly magnificent island. Dolphins, seals, rabbits, voles, more birds than I can identify, the views and seas of wild flowers are breathtaking. The puffins have no fear of humans and will flap around right in front of you. A naturalist and photographer's dream. Pick your time of year wisely (late spring/early summer best) as a lot of the flowers... More

You need to get up early to get here as the small boat that takes you to the island only carries 50 at a time and is very popular. Check the websites for details of the island and ferry service. For each adult you need to pay a £10 landing fee at the small centre near the car park, £5... More

An amazing day out on Skomer. Of course this is about the sea birds, but don't forget to check out the land ones too. The choughs, ravens, stonechats and wheatears are just as good. Unless you are lucky enough to stay the night, the only manx shearwater you will see are in kit form on the floor. They are clearly... More

Spent a wonderful day here on the island. Got the 10.00am sailing (beware can get very busy and first come first served only). Saw a whole load of wildlife including porpoises, seals, a host of birds but the highlight was the puffins.

We visted Skomer on 18th April 2017. Car park was nearly full when we arrived at 10.40 and were already aware of the £5 car park charge. The 11o'clock boat was full, so travelled to Skomer on the 12 o'clock. We saw puffins flying and landing on the island and water as we arrived and also many seal sunbathing on... More
