These guys are doing some amazing work in the field of turtle conservation. This place is a must visit to understand how tourism and other human activities are effecting places like the Tioman. The fact that the project is at the starting point for a amazing jungle hike that takes you to a waterfall is an added advantage!

Volunteered for 7 nights and 8 days, had lots of fun and involvement. Never a boring moment! Activities include snorkelling, kayaking, cycling, hiking to summit and waterfall, boat patrol, beach patrol, cooking lessons, educational videos on turtles and corals, educational turtle talk mini tour, relaxing in the hammock with a book from the mini library, beach cleanup, weekend night bazaar,... The exhibition is donation based. We had a nice experience here, learning more about the project from two friendly volunteers. Expect to spend about an hour here.

I can't speak for everyone who works there but Izzati, the manager of the project, was amazing. When we were struggling to find the ferry, there happened to be another person descending the stairs from Embassy hotel at the same time. She asked us where we were going, informed us that she was going to the same place, and got... More

Situated at the the other spectrum of what tioman is famouse for is the Juara Beach . A calm beach that is somewhat very hard to find these days . Untouched from hospitality industry I'd say although there are some resorts . The best part of the setting of Juara Beach is probably the local house and the locals themselves... More

I think all of us need to stop shopping and holidaying for luxurious needs for a moment. Plan for a holiday thats not all about yourself, but for a better future. Staying and volunteering at JTP opens up my heart and mind. I came home with a learned knowledge about sea turtles; they are about to endangered and how we... More

Looking to volunteer? This is an awesome project on the island of Tioman in Malaysia. Only 1 in 10,000 sea turtles will likely live through maturity. And what this project is doing may be only a small part but hugely important. It raises awareness, educates people, protects the eggs through re-nesting, ensures that hatchlings are immediately released to their natural... More

The operation has been ongoing for over a decade. It will be another 20 years before they see their first return hatchling. Watch for the red flashlights on that section of beach around 7:15 pm if you want to see a release.
