Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This Theatre is the second oldest one in Brazil. The first one is apparently located in Ouro Preto, MG. It has its own style, very scenic and the acoustic was perfect.
Try to stay in the "plateia" area. The camarotes and the other levels above are very small and you may feel unconfortable.
I wish they had more important/major plays going on every weekend. But I´m glad I had the opportunity to watch something there. It´s quite an experience, which I do recommend

It is said to be the second eldest in Brazil, opened in 1817. It's a nice looking theater on the inside, but it could be taken care of way better. It receives monthly a good comedy or play, but it is up to a schedule to be verified at your hotel.
Take care with streets surrounding the Theater for petty theft.

The theater team is wonderful.
I made the visit with Nayara, whom we applauded at the end of the tour because she was very generous with her explanations and because she showed us all the theater spaces.
Bravo to the city of São Luís for its free museum policy.

Without a doubt, European theaters in Latin American lands are a Brazilian hallmark, each city visited a beautiful theater symbol of an era of enlightened despotism. Beautiful theater, but like all Eurocentric approaches
