Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The have just recently restored these towers and they
are stunning. I love to go there at all times of day and watch how the light changes and the shadows move. Sunset is really pretty though. By Spring 2014 the streets should be restored as well and will bring the project to completion.
Enjoy

Such a wonderful town to walk around everything so perfectly preserved it is like walking through ancient history. Probably the most interesting town we have seen.

The place is beautiful: Porta Venere and the two towers are wonderful per se, but the landscape and the view over the countryside is gorgeous (especially at sunset).GO!

Porta Venere was erected in the Augustan age and included in a considerable number of buildings.
The tower-gate complex has been the object of at least two restorations: in the years from ten to twenty, when many buildings of the Middle Ages were demolished, and again in the years 1940-1941.
Porta Venere is closed on the sides by two towers called "Properzio" with a dodecagonal plan.
Made typically of three arches, it is decorated with Doric pilasters, interposed between arches. In the upper part there is a trabeation along the entire length of the door, a unifying motif in the sign of a compositional harmony.
It is also equipped with a cavaedium, a fortification building that provides a double door. The whole area on which the complex stands today was once full of other buildings whose remains can now be seen in the cellars of the houses that run along Via Torri di Properzio .

When restoring ancient ceramics, they ensure that any new parts are clearly different in colour/texture. However, this make-over of the twin towers seems to have been taken too far - they are immaculate, just like the day they were built. They are certainly impressive and photogenic, but hardly count as authentic historic features.

The gate is in a really good state and isolated from other buildings. You can snap some nice shots here. The whole city is a real sight if you look from the outside.

We've been to many dozens of small towns in Italy over 30 days of travelling and my wife and I both agreed that this town was one of the best. Even though we were there in late Nov. and it was chilly, all the houses had a multitude of plants along the laneways and streets. Lots of small laneways to explore and plenty of parking areas on both sides of the town in the lower section for easy access. Limited parking in the town square.

Awe inspiring building. One of the most iconic of Spello; it seems like time has never passed. Really a must-see attraction.

Re built gate into the delightful city of Spello, tours available around the gate towers. But if you miss the tour you still have a great place to view.
