The ascent to the hill of the "old earth", made possible by the impressive panoramic lift, gives to the visitors the thrill to enjoy a view of great value: the mount Etna and Taormina, the valley of the Alcantara River and at the same time to be touched by the charm of the vestiges of centuries of Mediterranean history.A skilful restoration work has unearthed a monumental archaeological site of exceptional importance.

It's in the shadows of Taormina and there is no much left... but... the atmosphere and history behind and the view are all worth! Strongly recommended!

The castle is simply amazing. Cost to entrance is reasonable. Ride on the funicular is spectacular, going higher and higher and the views get even more beautiful. The castle is beautiful and well-kept. We had the opportunity to walk freely about, at each room there...More

Not anything to say about it, except that it - and the funicular - is closed. We are told by the admirable and knowledgeable people at our hotel that it will not be open this year. So no real review but, given that it was...More

Well worth a visit and easily missed. The castle has great historic importance and has been restructured and offers a restaurants with one of the most stunning views that this island has to offer.

Beautiful location. It appears from the amazingly uninformative notices that there has been an acropolis here since the Greeks, parts look normanish but you would hardly know. The site appears to have had a lot of money spent fairly recently on a fernicular lift (who...More

the castle itself is interesting but not much really to see. But still worth a visit. What made it for us, was the ride up in the funicular railway / lift. The views from the top, and the walk down along an old track past...More

The castle is easily missed - we didn't see it advertised in any guidebooks or tourist information centres, but followed the road signs. The Arab/Norman walls have survived surprisingly well, and the modern additions have been done sympathetically. If visiting the Norman mosaics in Palermo,...More

The castle is located on the south of Taormina along the way to Catania over a hilltop, which is over 240 m. above the sea level. The fantastic and romantic view from Taormina until Syracus should be enjoyed in the late afternoon during the sunset.

After hearing so much about the Castle of Calatabiano, I expected to see at least a finding well maintained, however the disappointment is huge, because what remains of the castle, not much believe me, it's all created simply to have a coffee with the excuse...More
