A visit to this stunningly beautiful abbey in Ettal is well worth it. The baroque interior is amazing. At the time we visited, the monks were singing the evening Gregorian chants, which was wonderful to hear and an added bonus.

When I visited, only the basilica and gift shop were open. The Basilica was well worth a visit, but this stop was less than an hour. Easily accessible by bus from Garmisch, but I'm not sure it's worth the time unless you fit this in with Linderhof, which is spectacular and on the same bus route.

Go inside the church. There are some of the most impressive paintings and decor I have ever seen. This is an amazing place. Have a seat and just look up. Take your time and enjoy all the detail. Think about the time and skill needed to create this place. Fantastic !

I've seen some beautiful places in my lifetime, but NONE like this. Everything from the architecture, to the beautification of the land - superb. I would advise anyone who appreciates European history, art, and architecture to visit Benediktinerabtei Ettal

Impressive dome can be seen from afar, the inside of the church is typical baroque and the surrounding buildings, grounds lovely and well maintained. Although I visited on a Sunday it was peaceful and a good place to have a little time out ( or rest if like me you have just hiked down from the summit of Laber)

Stop and smell the alpine air as you visit this beautiful site. There is the abbey and the rest of the monastery. There are restaurants right outside. There was a wedding while we were there with ladies wearing their dirndls.

Beautiful interior, impressive buildings, nice stop along the way. So much detail in the church (including the plaster work, painting, and woodwork) it was a bit overwhelming. Take your time to take it in! Regal facade and cute town. There is free parking out front, and if that is full a paid lot right next door.
