A sign at the entrance to the terraces says: "Respecting Nature, Protecting Environment, Continuing History". In fact, the water from most of the terraces has been diverted from the naturally occuring pools so construction can continue on the addition of artifically constructed concrete pools. Some...More

The terraces are lovely. we had a very sunny day so the colours were beautiful. It's a great walk up and around and we took our time so it was a couple of hours. The village is a very sleepy little place but the people...More

We visited this area in early May 2017 and saw that there were construction underway, creating man-made terraces at a lower level. It closely resembles the natural terraces that are actually much further up. Felt that this could be deceiving to future visitors. Go all...More

White Water (Baishui) Terraces is the highlight of my Shangri-la tour. From a distance, it looks like Pamukkale in Turkey on a small scale. It takes about 2-1/2-3 hours drive from the old town. The local government is building many artificial terraces to draw more...More

We arrived with 3 hours driving from shangri la on the way to lijiang. It did not look like a great place therefore we just passed. Maybe it would be beautiful but the way to reach there is too long.

At the moment this is an interesting limestone formation, with small ponds on the top, unspoiled in the countryside with a somewhat primitive restaurant near the bottom of the hill which serves good local food. But I imagine that in 5 years time there will...More

It a very beatiful place, but it doesn't worth almost 3 hours and half to go from Shangi-La (and 3 hours and half to come back).

Just taking a ride to the Terraces was so beautiful and interesting culminating at this beautiful natural wonder. You need to hike around and take in the surrounding views -- just breathtaking!

It's an extra 2 hours taking the long scenic route from Tiger Leaping Gorge to Shangri-la. If the weather is good the drive is pretty scenic but it's true that the road can be winding in some stretches. We took about an hour to walk...More

I have found the information that there is a direct bus from Lijiang to Baishuitai leaving at 8:30 every morning, but am not sure how recent and/or reliable this information is. 1. Could someone confirm that this is such a direct bus, even if the time might be different? If so, where does it leave from? 2. If I manage to arrive at Baishuitai at around 14:30 (according to the same information that shows 6 hours for the duration), is it realistic to plan walking back to TLG and stay in one of the guest houses on that night? 3. If not possible to walk back, is it possible to hire a car/minibus from Baishuitai to TLG? 4. If so, could you kindly suggest where we should try to hire a car? How long would it take from Baishuitai to the middle gorge by a car?

Hi! There is a direct bus but I don't know the time. From Lijiang, ask your hostel for the bus or cheaper but less easy you can take the bus from the bus station at the south of the old city. It takes 3hours to go to... More

I plan to visit TLG and then go to Baishuitai (White Water Terrace). After buying ticket at the Ticket Office, can we travel by our Bus to reach the Baishuitai? I do expect there is a paving road and not just a trekking path. Thanks.
