Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Depending on the weather you will get rough or calm seas. When on stony beach, water is clearer. Some parts Sandy, some stony. Beware, there are concrete slabs played to prevent erosion in places. Water was warm.

Beautiful white stoney beach. Not much beach front, perhaps to global warming, my forest time visiting so I cannot accurately comment. But beautiful all the same.
Start of April and they have started cleaning up the beach in preparation for the ‘holiday season’.
Initially mounds of seaweed but has need cleared away.
Further towards Roda, the beach becomes sandy.
Unfortunately the weather was poor when I visited but I can imagine just how beautiful this beach would have been on a blazing summer day.
Saw windsurfers having a whale of a time so I can imagine water sports are also great - when the weather permits.
Lots of potential hotels and bars along the front - just not open yet at this time of year (April).

If you like noise, crowded beaches, plastic tat and an array of food outlets this may not be the beach for you. At one end (the beach in front of the town) there are some lovely beachside restaurants and it can get a bit crowded but as you head further towards Almyros you’ll find you can have a stretch of beach to yourself.
On a windy day with choppy seas it may not be so good for toddlers as it doesn’t have much in the way of shallows. It’s great for kids (and grown ups) who love jumping waves and body boarding though. On a calm day it’s perfect for all.

What an absolute dump !!!!!!! The place is so dirty . We went for three weeks and found the locals extremely rude . Supermarket staff keep your change if it’s not a large amount . Most of the top road is very neglected and a lot of the restaurants get your order wrong then give attitude when you question it . The beach road is very patchy and only paved in parts . We did find a hand full ( well 3 ) restaurants that were decent . If we had walked to roda sooner I’d have spent my holiday down there instead . AVOID AVOID AVOID .

We stayed in Afionas for a week before going to Gimari. The beaches kn the west have sand whereas most beaches in the east are pebble, which usually means they are better for snorkelling. We stumbled across this beach in one of my exploratory cycles. What a find, crystal clear, calm and quiet. We loved it. There are two tavernas, both provide excellent food.

The hotel is new and has all the necessary amenities. Pool, breakfast, and it is very close to the beach. The staff is friendly and the rooms are clean. Aegeo Spa is available for massages. I had a very relaxing massage. Spiridoula and Maria are professionals, kind and they always provide the service with a smile. I definitely recommend the cretan massage. But there are also a lot of options to choose from.

Was staying at the Almyros beach hotel, which is right on the beach over a little road. The hotel has its own sunbed area, as does other hotels, but there is plenty of space & areas for just picking your own spot. The beaches downfall is that its pebbly, but its quiet (during covid maybe?), peaceful and pleasant. The sea is calm and slopes away nicely, but can change calmness within minutes, but me n my daughter found this fun. There was a little van that ran up n down (see pic) that sold all varieties of fruit and was quite amusing. All in all a nice beach, and would recommend a walk up n down to find the odd bar. Enjoy

Really lovely beach and STUNNING sunset at around 9pm! The one criticism is that it was VERY pebbly right where the water started and had to wear our shoes to get in so we didn't hurt ourselves. Sun loungers are available and most places let you use them free of charge if you buy food/drinks from them. Lots of lovely restaurants surrounding the beach. Lovely holiday.

Better than many beaches on the north coast. Long with gentle slopping pebble beach. A few small waves while we were there but looks fairly safe for bathing. Good views to Albania across the water

Had a couple of lovely days here with our girls (14 and 17).
Spent lots of time in the water - gets windy as the day goes on, but quite shallow for a fair way out. So perfect for not super strong swimmers like me.
Stony beach until you get into the water, where it's sandy, so either beach shoes or live with the stones for a few metres.
Most of the beachside tavernas / bars have their own sun-loungers you can use, so providing you're willing to have the odd drink or bite to eat (and they really aren't pushy), then it's good value as other beaches you'll pay 7+ Euros to hire loungers and umbrellas.
We stopped at "the Spot" which was really nice - great food, great value. See separate review.
You can walk along the beach for quite a way too - nice break.

We are coming out in 2 weeks. Will there be a good selection of restaurants/bars and shops open?
Written 1 April 2019
You will find that there shall be quite a selection of restaurants/bars/shops open so do not worry. You may find selection of dishes in restaurants may be as wide ranging as at the main holiday times however still a wide variety snacks and meals. Many shops will be open, supermarkets too are open. Bars open for morning coffee etc.
Enjoy your time.
We are regular visitors to Acharavi (we stay with a friend who lives there and we know many folks - Brits & Greeks in Acharavi) and we are going out in 3 weeks time to join in the celebrations of the Greek Easter (which is a week after UK Easter).
Hope this information is helpful.

Hi, Acharavi is a restful beach, on occasions can have some water sports mid summer, but limited. If you are looking for water sports, your best bet is Roda.
What I would recommend when in Acharavi, visit a couple of travel agents that advertise water sports activities, look what is available in the area....do not purchase tickets etc. Easier to privately book taxi to take you there and arrange time to bring you back.
Hope this helps
If you wish to have a go at water sports
