Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

One of the lovelier houses in Herculaneum, with a beautiful garden with statues of stags (cervi) sadly being attacked by dogs. There are also some amazing frescoes, including one at least 1500 years before its time showing a still life scene with a crystal clear drinking glass.

Enjoyed the art (food pics) still on the walls along with the stencils used prior to painting and some of the recreated statues in the garden.

The house of the Deers is a true sign of the wealth of the era. When walking around it, the feeling is something of desire and wealth based on the layout and design of the dwelling. One can only imagine how it would have felt in its day as the mosaics, servants rooms and garden with statues and a scenic terrace overlooking the sea would have been truly devine

At the time we visited, the house itself is closed. We can only see the 4 small statues in the garden courtyard, one of them being the namesake of the house, i.e., a deer being attacked by dogs.b

It was pretty amazing to walk through this villa with our guide imagining what a luxurious waterfront piece of property it was!

This was one of the best houses in the town and would have had a superb sea view. It is well worth entering as you go down towards the dock area. The bronze statues of two deer are now in the museum in Naples

The House of the Deer was closed at the time of our visit. Pity. It must be a beautiful property with nice wall painting, floor mosaics, and garden statuary. I was able to see just the fauces (entrance hall) thru the grate.

In an excellent state of conservation, a step back in time to 79 AD. The frescos are so vivid it's as if you were there when when the volcano erupted...

One of the best preserved areas in the town. Loads of different rooms and just too much to describe here. Go and see it.
