Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This house must’ve been owned by a wealthy individual for its large size and opulence. Several rooms have been so well preserved that they’re identifiable even to a non specialist, including bedrooms, kitchens, dining rooms and latrines. By far the most outstanding decoration is the fresco depicting the Roman deities, Neptune and Amphitrite. One of the best buildings to see inside the archaeological site.

The highlight in this large house is the truly beautiful mosaic depicting Neptune and Amphitrite in the nymphaeum, where there are also other splendid mosaics showing hunting scenes with dogs and deer. Also in the house is a startling limestone head still with some of its original red paint.

Absolutely not to miss. This site is much more maneageabl then Pompei and you see pretty much the same thing. Highly recommended. If you go by car, part at their parking lot. Do not be tempted by cheaper options around the site because they are not insured. The site parking lot is very convenient and secured.

Not totally destroyed and lost by the eruption of Vesuvius. Preserved in the volcanic muds that enveloped the city.

This is the best preserved and clearest mosaic on the Herculaneum site. It is towards the top of the second street from the left as you go into the site. You don't expect to see such a wonder when you go through the small house entrance from the cobbled street.
if you are able to, you will see more and better preserved mosaics in the National Archeological museum in Naples. I particularly remember the fantastic mosaics there which were originally in the House of the Faun from Pompeii. They give you an idea of the luxury and opulence that houses of the wealthy had at that time.

One of the highlights of Herculaneum is this mosaic. While many other pieces have been moved to the museum in Naples, they did leave this wonderful mosaic.

When my husband and I saw this stunning mosaic during our time in the Ercolano ruins, we both gasped in unison. The brilliant color was so unexpected. It is amazing that it has been preserved and we are able to see it today.

We got so much out of our trip to Herculaneum. Going to the National Archaological Museum in Naples first is recommended. We also went to the MAV up the road from the ruins before we went to the ruins themselves, which really helped us visualize fully what we were seeing there.

Very beautiful and well preserved original mosaic. Far better than even many you see in a museum at Pompeii.
