Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The museum had been moved next to the art museum about 4 km out of town, on the same road, sadly no promotion. Great pre-Khmer artifacts as well as rare photos from the 70's. Fairly good English explanation and the staff very attentive. Not to miss if you are a museum buff like us

Great Museum. It would be good to visit this Museum before climbing up the mountain if you do not have the background about this site. Very informative with lots of pictures.

Excellent small local museum, with a number of displays relating to local big dignitaries, but also a small section featuring the struggle of this small nation to gain independence from France and keep its neutrality in the 1960's. There are a number of artifacts relating the to non (in name only) war raged by the USA in the mid 60's / early 70's. as part of the Viet Nam War . These included small arms and some significant bombs dropped indiscriminately by B-47s over a largely undefended Laos.
A very good section on local crafts
Small admission fee, and lots to think about.

Perfect for a short attention span, we stopped in to the museum after stumbling upon it on a walk back to our hotel from downtown. We’d gone by it a dozen times without seeing it!

It was interesting to see local maps, some ancient drums and architecture features, old and in circulation Lao money, extinct fish species, cultural info on minority populations, and an extensive set of photos from the last 60+ years of Lao history (I’ve got some study to do to put it all in context) and The Who’s who of the area. The newest items seem to be from ten years or so ago.

Well worth the visit.

On the main road just outside the city center, rather small, but cheap and interesting, with traditional music instruments, handicraft, fishing equipement, farming equipement, notes... Information is provided in Lao & in English. Friendly staff. Give it a go!
