Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Depends on your reasons for visiting on how you see this but for me it was excellent....very well kept as always with CWGC sites with incredible views to take in whilst you reflect. For me, I went to see my Great Grand Uncles name on the memorial, 100 years to the day of his falling so it was especially poignant.

Very sombre atmosphere despite the crowds here. Very close to the water and the sun shines well off the monument. Recommended for an early morning or late afternoon visit.

Mr Churchill in 1915, said that 50,000 men and some good ships would sort the troublesome Turks.
Well the Helles Memorial disproves those thoughts big time. The nearly 21,000 names recorded on the memorial of British and commonwealth troops who have no known grave, plus the thousands recorded at the likes of Loan Pine, Chunuk Bair and the Lancashire War Grave not far from Helles.
Churchill lost his job. The men remembered, their lives. A somber place but one which you have to visit. As you drive closer it’s size grows but only goes some way in remembering the sacrifices so many made during the Dardanelles campaign and the invasion of the Gallipoli peninsula.

The grass-mower was diligently working and there was no soul in the area. A balanced obelisc-ed construction blending with and on what goes around. The inscriptions in marble pages are eloquent.

Gallipoli is often thought of as the battle of the ANZACs (the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) but British soliders also fought in the conflict and the Hellas Memorial is in memory of these soldiers.
Its a simple memorial, a white pinnacle with a square wall surrounding it containing the names of the service men and women who died in this battle.
We visited the site to find the name of our great grandfather William McCully. There was also a small museum not far away (a short drive) which allowed you to get a sense of what this battle was like and where it was fought.
We visited this on our tour around Western Turkey. If you want to see what else we did then you can read it at http://www.my-family-adventure-holiday-reviews.com/turkey/ or see my other trip advisor reviews.

A sobering list of those fallen in battle. Many from the same regiment(presumably pals). Many with the same family surname. To my shame. I did not realise how many British troops fell here. The whole wall is covered in names and everyone brought tears. A suitable memorial we feel privileged to have visited.

Gallipoli. Such a beautiful place that still wears the invisible scars of a brutal conflict. So many brave men didn't manage to continue their lives after this event. War. Tragedy. Will it always have to be so? So sad.

A must see monument to stupidity which includes two of my relatives who were caught up in this carnage. A superb thank you to CWGC for looking after everything and keeping the memorial so serene.

A memorial to those who died in the Gallipoli conflict. Enlightening to know that many who died were not from ANZAC but from India. Several Gurkas died in the conflict too. Lovely setting.

Can anyone advise me if you can get a coach on a day trip from Istanbul to Helles Memorial?
Written 3 May 2015
I would doubt it as it is a 4 hour trip to get there by road from Istanbul. You would be better off hiring a car if you drive.
