DON’T FOLLOW WAZE!
Dec. 2019 • Couples
Don’t follow Waze, it won’t get you there. Just a track to a gate you cannot pass through, but Waze says you can!
Google Maps offers a different route, but by then we had had enough of the rough track, so didn’t try!
The photos posted look great, so perhaps we will give it another go next time we are in the area!

Awesome! But not easy to reach
Oct. 2019 • Couples
After a 5km drive on a bad dirt road you can park at the trail head (some locals are selling drinks and snacks there). Change into good shoes, grab a bootle of water and you start the 30 minute hike down to the falls. The path is okay, but sometimes steep and often over lose stones. Stay right on the path to get to a T junction, where you can hear the falls already on your left. After 50m you will get there and you will stand next to the 15-20m drop and you will have a nice view down the valley.
But that was just the start. Turn around and head up the river. After lass than 10 minutes you will be at the real falls.
Have a deserved rest on the provided chairs and enjoy the view of the massive drop of the biggest falls in the Jalicso district.
The way up (~170m of height) took us 40 minutes and we rewarded us with some delicous cucumber and water melon with lime from the shop (for 25 pesos).
In total we spent about two hours there. It is not an easy hike, but any normal person without a medical condition should be able to make the hike with a break. The hike and parking are free of charge.

So worth the hike! Breathtaking waterfall!
Aug. 2019
My family recently visited Tapalpa (Aug 2019) and took this hike to el Salto de Nogal waterfall. Yes, it is a bit steep and can be a bit slippery in the rainy season to get to the waterfall, but it is SO worth it. We went early in the morning - around 8am - and were the only ones there for the first hour and had the waterfall all to ourselves. The hike down is gorgeous with views of steep canyon walls and all sorts of cool agave and other plants growing right out of the canyon walls. My wrote up our entire trip to Tapalpa on my blog site, Mexpatmama if you are interested in learning more about this place.

Gorgeous HIKE to waterfall
Jul. 2019 • Friends
Incredible views the entire way. This is a hike though. It’s going to take 30-60 minutes to get to the bottom and then you have the option to hike for double that to find different points in the waterfall.
Going up is 20-60 minutes as well depending on how frequently you hike. Bring water and workout shoes.
We did not swim as the water was muddy due to rainy season, but there were others who did.

Nice waterfall
May 2019 • Couples
Nice waterfall... the water didn't appear to be that clean as there was alot of algae. There were a few other people swimming. The surrounding area was busy with people. The road getting there was too bad... we made it in a small Chevy car. It does get pretty bumpy toward the end but passable in a car. The first part of the hike is mostly going down rock steps... took us about 30 minutes going down and 45 up as we stopped for water (the temperature was in the high 80s and very hot!) My inlaws did it round trip and they are in their late 60's.

Great outing
Mar. 2019 • Couples
To tours on a Tuesday, ATV were $500 pesos for 1 hour so 4 hours for 2 people was pricey. We took a cab/sitio for $600 pesos for 34 km return. It took 30 minutes to drive there, 35 minutes to walk down to the 1st small falls. It was challenging as the rock steps are uneven but it was the dry season we were slow and cautious. A 2 - 3 minute flat walk gets you to the large falls. We spent 60 minutes there just enjoying the nature. We waided in but didn't swim. There are easier places to have a swim. We took it slow going back up with lots of water breaks and it still only took us 35 minutes. Our driver took us back to the square and we gave him a nice tip. Great outing we met no one on our trek. Go during the week.

Beautiful
Apr. 2017 • Family
The terrain To arrive to this beautiful waterfall was the most strenuous and difficult that I have ever done. It took us more than an hour to make it all the way down, but the view is worth it. To climb up took us over two hours. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes, hat, and plenty of water.

Nice Waterfall
Dec. 2016 • Couples
If you're in the area, then you must check out the highest falls in the state of Jalisco. 30 minutes from Tapalpa. Not too difficult to find. Take the detour along the cliff face (off the trail) to check out the valley before (or after) making it down to the falls. Trail is a bit steep, but not too strenuous.

beautiful 80-100 meter waterfall 3o minutes from Tapalpa
Apr. 2016 • Family
You drive 20-30 minutes in a dirt road to get to the top. Then you descend for about 30 minutes through the mountain in sort of man made rock steps. There is a smaller 10-15 meter waterfall and then you see the big one. The river is nice and you can even swim in the lake if you can take really cold water. Going back is tough; 30-40 minute climb in steep steps. Not dangerous but better take sneakers, water and sunscreen. Reasonable physical condition required.
