Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Finished this year race 42Km. and I am still amazed by the experience. It's totally addicting and gives you the goosebumps! I want to do it again. You should witness it on November.

Marathonas its basically far away from everything you would like to see in Greece but if you are in the area this is one of the few things to see here. This museum would tell you the history of Marathon run and how important was for the Athens history.
The museum was interesting to see with some videos and statues but still I don't if it worth the day trip from Athens. I was around, so for me it wasn't a hassle to go. But if you consider to arrange a day trip to come here it would be a mistake in my opinion. Besides this museum and the Archaeological museum, there is not much to see. Its far away and in some sense, a little abandoned. The good thing is that you would not encounter touristic crowds and the entrance tickets are cheap.

We received a warm and friendly welcome from staff. We watched a short movie in English about the origins of the marathon which was very interesting and enlightening. There is lots of information to read around the museum and some interesting memorabilia.
At 2 euros per ticket this museum is well worth a visit.

If you think you have to be a Marathon runner to go here your wrong. Very interesting an excellent museum about the history of marathon running lots and lots to see a brilliant video plays in English charting the history right back to the start when a Greek soldier ran to Athens. We spent an hour there could have spent more time, it is only 2 euros to get in excellent value would have been happy to pay much more.

I would recommend visiting this place if you are ever in Marathon.
I got the bus down from Athens with my daughter to have a look around Marathon and found this museum. (unfortunately just as it was closing so we didn't have long to look around.
Be aware that it closes early, 3pm during the week and 2pm at weekends!
It does have an amazing collection of memorabilia from Olympic Marathon races from around the world (Olympic torches, posters, etc), well worth a visit!

We went there with really high expectations – and we came back totally disillusioned. Marathon is a very small town and you could get the impression that nobody cares for any tourist attraction. For example: the starting point for the classic Greek marathon (a mid-size arena) was in a very bad condition, dirty and many paintings on the wall. The grass was brown, broken glass everywhere.
Additionally we tried the find the Marathon Museum – and we failed. The guideposts ended in the middle of nowhere – and nobody in town was able (or willing) to support. A bit frustrated we left the town to visit Lake Marathon. This lake is located round about 10 km in the north – beautiful situated like hundred even thousands of lake on earth– and: that´s it.
Bottom-Line: there are hundreds of better places in Athens and the suburbs.
