About
is a small town on the scenic plateaus of eastern Samogitia that is famous for the monuments to baroque culture it contains. Tytuvenai’s Church of Our Lady of the Angels and Bernardine monastery complex are among Lithuania’s largest and most significant specimens of 17th and 18th century sacred architecture, reflecting as they do a multi-layered harmony of the gothic, mannerist and baroque styles.

This site was well worth the drive out of my way to visit as it is a stunning monastery with lots of history, there was a wedding taking place inside the church when I visited. I really enjoyed walking the closed arched courtyard, with places to sit.

If traveling nearby, Tytuvenai is a must stop. In spite of wars and more recent disaster, like a major fire of 2012, Tytuvenai complex is still one of the most impressive complexes of religious buildings in Lithuania. The church is a mixture of late gothic, Renaissance and baroque styles. Closed arcaded courtyard of the monastery is rarely encountered in Lithuania. The monastery is beautifuly restored and maintained. For 2 EUR entrance ticket you can walk through the building, see the remaining wall paintings and some church art, though many of that was lost in devastating fire. There is a small café in the area of former monastery kitchen where a cup of coffe or tea or glass of cold drink will refresh after the excursion.

The Bernard monastery of 17th century surprises with its delicate interior. It is considered one of the most beautiful sacral buildings in Lithuania.
