About
Gorgeous and Historic Saxon/Norman/Medieval church open for guided historical tours. Tour will include links to the nearby Eleanor cross, the finest in England, pagan past, Saxon/Norman architecture and sculpture, the lost Royal Palace of Geddington and the many Kings and Queens who worshiped there. Resting in a pre-Roman village containing pubs, tea room and shop, picnic grounds by medieval bridge, grade one listed buildings and thatched cottages. All within minutes walk of church. The tours can be small as one person, or as large as 50 persons and are free, though donations to the church are appreciated. The church has approved safeguarding programs, and have received enthusiastic raves from scores of groups, from children, the disabled, from foreign visitors and historical authorities. We can also arrange for meal or snack bookings, free reserved parking, historical treasure/scavenger hunts, all of which have been praised for making history come alive.

We initially stopped at Geddington, just because we were on the look out for a village cafe with outside seating.Which we found there.

We then decided to view the Eleanor cross. It was there that we met the very knowledgeable and enthusiastic church guide Kam, who was kind enough to share his extensive knowledge of Geddington church with us. We had passed by Geddington church on the way to the historic houses in the area, but never realized that the church was such a gem and of national historic importance. It's Saxon age was a surprise, as were the with Saxon architectural features. It was also redesigned by the emanate Victorian architects of the day, but it's main draw is the many British kings and queens who walked though the wooden 11th century church door during the past. There is also a connection to the gun power plot as members of the Tresham family who lived at that time have memorials inside the church building.Even the church yard is of national historic important being the site of a royal lodge and with such features as the Saxon sun dial and the crusader oath marks on the masonry on the outside church walls. If you enjoy British history it really is worth a visit.

We met Kam whilst passing through the village to take a look at the Eleanor Cross and had our collective mind blown by 800 years of British History. The church is a fascinating soup of pagan, Christian, Puritan, reformation and sycophantic and kingly history with a bit of witchcraft thrown in. Visit the church but look out for Kam or call ahead as you would never appreciate just how confusing and important this little community church is. Why we don’t learn about Geddington and its importance is a mystery - sadly lacking in our curriculum. We rounded the day off with a visit to the The Oak tea shop on the far side of the 800 year old bridge - excellent food and friendly service. A hidden gem of a village with much to recommend it!

We were passing through with a just so happen to stop moment to look at the Eleanor Cross when we stumbled across Kam, a passionate local oracle and historian, with a wealth of knowledge on the local area, the Church of Mary Magdalene, and English history. A wonderful and fascinating tour of quite possibly the most interesting and confusing church, both inside and out. A two minute stop off turned into two hours. Should be an essential school trip guide and part of the curriculum. Well worth an afternoon trip.

I have wanted to look around this church for a long time but never found it open,I contacted the warden and he kindly arranged for me to meet Kam the guide. This church is a 'must' visit if you are in the area, the interior is beautiful and there is so much history, not just in the church but the village too. Kam the guide was very welcoming and knowledgable, what he doesn't know about this church isnt worth knowing! I found it really interesting and highly recommend a tour! There is so much more to Geddington than just the Eleanor Cross, don't miss out!

We stumbled across this church while visiting the Eleanor Cross and wow - what an amazing surprise! We were so fortunate that Kam was giving a tour at the time as his knowledge and passion enabled us to understand just how historically important the church is, as well as Geddington itself, I research our trips extensively and can't understand why this noteworthy church isn't mentioned in the many different resources I use.

The church had been prepared for a wedding blessing and the flowers were lovely, Also we were given a guided tour of the church with so much information to take in. It has so much history that you need quite a while here to see and learn about it all. We were made very welcome.

Stopped by Geddington to see the Eleanor Cross. As we were looking at it we met Kam, the local tour guide who gave us a fascinating talk about the cross & it's history and gave us a tour of the church. Simply amazing. The fact that so many of our monarchs have visited the village and it's church is beyond compare. Go visit this pretty village, find Kam and prepare to have your mind filled to the brim with over 1000 years of English history!

5 friends and I had a very short tour/talk (our request as we had dinner booked at The Star) primarily about the Queen Eleanor Cross but drifting into the Church. We will be back at a later date for the full Church tour. I have lived near the village for some time yet learnt so much from Kam. His passion for the topic shines through. He is knowledgeable and energetic and really brings history to life. I will never look at the cross or the humble spring underneath in the same way again! Well worth your time!
