This is a small museum, but it has some fascinating exhibits with nice explanations. It brought to life the rich Roman history of Astorga and its vicinity.

The video is with English subtitles, which follow the spoken Spanish, and as they speak very fast in Spain, it was difficult to read it all and follow the pictures.…

This tour is superb but it must be booked well in advance via email. If you wait till you arrive in Astorga you most likely will be out of luck. The tour is only given in Spanish and there is a lot of information given so the guide speaks very quickly even for some Spaniards. So if you Spanish is basic, or non-existent, be sure to download the "Astvrica Emerge" App for your phone. The tour will take you to places not open to the public such as the Major and Minor Thermal Baths, the Ergastula, and the Roman sewers etc. etc. If you have been to Bath, England, the Forum in Rome, or have studied Roman history in school the Spanish language presentation is only a minor inconvenience. What makes this tour so fantastic is Alcia, the docent. She does a remarkable job involving everyone old and young, will speak to you in English between sites to make sure you understand, and when we got to the Roman Museum she brought us THE museum directory in English so we could take our time there! All this--the tour combined with the museum for only 3 Euros Reduced! Constant Companion is a tour guide herself and she too marveled at Alicia!!!!…

There are finds from the town on the ground floor and the second floor and an audiovisual show which places the artifacts in context. The museum is interesting but the real interest lies in the tour of Roman sites organised by the museum. These tours last two hours and take you round the City showing some sites visible to the general public but also admitting you to several cellars with archaeological remains - you even get to walk through a Roman sewer! The tours are advertised on the website and you book by email. The museum and the tour costs 5 euros per person…
