Very interesting museum with a very large collection of items from shipwrecks. The waters surrounding Cape Town's shores are littered with shipwrecks, most harking back to the time of early European explorers who were rounding the content for the very first time. The seas and weather surrounding the peninsula are so treacherous that they earned the moniker the 'Cape of Storms'.

The nearby coastline has seen many, many shipwrecks over the years mainly caused be the currents as a result of the meeting of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. The museum is quite traditional in it's presentation with no hi-tech stuff at all but it is very well laid out and informative and it's obvious that a lot of work has gone into the gathering of the artefacts over many years. Well done to those involved.

I’ve been here several times and always find it rather pleasant. It quiet and relaxing. A stroll in the garden on a warm sunny day - perfect.
I recommend visiting the Shipwreck Museum if you get a chance.

I just couldn't believe my ears when we were asked to pay R100 for 2 tickets to enter the museum - most municipal- run museums are free or ask a modest sum - we both felt that the R50 per ticket just wasn't worth it.
Anyway, we were set on seeing the shipwreck section and it was very interesting and we spent most of our time there, looking at the exhibits. We also appreciated the anchor display, arranged in a circular fashion, in the grounds. Of lesser interest to us was a bottle collection and the old vicarage, in the building alongside which houses old furniture and household objects.
No informative pamphlets were available and the staff was not particularly helpful either.
Apart from us, there was only one other couple there and just maybe if the museum were to lower its entrance fee, they may well find more people visiting.

The staff was friendly and very informed. They have an amazing anchor garden. The stories of the ships are interesting. Fun experience.

It's a waste of time, in fact the whole town is. We were going to the sea and stopped here but clearly we wasted our time should have gone straight to the ocean do not stop at town. The only action here was the speed cops!

A really interesting stop-off with lots of information and details of the history of the many shipwrecks from the area. There were many interesting strories with items recovered from the wrecks to illustrate and we spent a very enjoyable hour or so browsing around. The staff were clearly proud of their museum and very helpful, and the entry fee is a very reasonable 50 ZAR for non-SA nationals. You also have the bonus of a being allowed to stroke Juno, the museum cat.

As the title suggests it's all about the sad tales of ships wrecked off the coastline here. Some solid tales from history through the ages with lots of remains hauled from vessels & the sea bed. All good stuff, together with other rooms which housed furniture & clothing over several centuries. Outside they had a barn which housed fire engines & other ancient apparatus. All quite pleasant, but not mind-blowing.

Much bigger than we expected! Clean and a wide variety of displays. We never realised how many ships have sunk in the area. Most interesting!

This was a great way to spend an hour or two. Very informative little museum with good display and information. Well set out historical house section with lots of local history. Dont miss the old fire engine in one of the outbuildings. Entry was R25 for adults R10 for children.
