The castle was built for Nicolas Rapin in the late sixteenth century. The facade decorated with terracotta muses from the eighteenth century and the porch, illustrate the influences of the Poitevin nobility in the sixteenth up to the eitghteenth century. The lobby, with its many art objects: miniature, keys, weapons, eighteenth clothing, pottery ... and a magnificent sedan chair of the eighteenth. Then the eighteenth furniture and paintings by few well known masters. The large living room is dominated by a fireplace designed by Philibert Delorme, the carved and gilded wooden pediment was realized for the first of Moliere's Bourgeois Gentilhomme before Louis XIV in Chambord. The small living room is decorated with beautiful oak woodwork Louis XVI garlands. The dining room is under the aegis of Francis I, with two doors from Chambord opening onto a huge fireplace. Georges Simenon lived here between 1941 and 1943 and received his friends Jean Tissier and painter Maurice de Vlaminck.

Small but beautiful describes this chateau. Grounds are peaceful. We were taken on a tour by a young man called Nicolas who described everything in a interesting and thoughtful way. At the time we visited we were the only ones who did the tour and we enjoyed it very much. The visit does not take long, but I highly recommend... More

Sunday is not one of France's busiest days for tourists. In fact one might say that France is closed on Sunday. This stately home was open so we popped in for a look. The cost, €7.00 per adult. We had a guide, Nicolas, who was a student of art and art history part timing here. He was very knowledgable and... More

Had a lovely tour around this Chateau. The tour was in French and they gave us folders with the English translations. The guides and all the staff were very nice and spoke excellent english. Lovely examples of period furniture and collections of guns, keys and other items.

We were lucky enough to be the only 2 people at that time for the tour so had more like a VIP tour. The young lady who looked after us spoke perfect English and interacted with us during the tour thus giving us so much more insight into the history of this beautiful building and the people who have lived... On a sunny day, the grounds and exterior were very enjoyable. It was closed so sorry not to be able to comment on the interior. Close to the centre of town.

Our host recommended this chateau and we were lucky to get an English spoken tour. The history was amazing and it is still lived in by the family. Definitely worth a visit

I visited Chateau de Terre Neuve with my wife and two children a few days ago as we were holidaying in Vendee and we had always wanted to visit an old Chateau such as this. We were not disappointed! We were met by a very nice tour guide and even though she told us that it was only her second... More

While in the area a visit to this chateau will be a pleasant surprise. Even though only part of the building is open to visitors, the remainder is still occupied, it will an hour or so well spent. Guided tours are available in different languages and the guides are generally well informed. Well worth the modest fee.
