When you turn the other direction from Kirkjufellsfoss, you see Kirkjufell Mountain, which is the most photographed mountain in Iceland. Definitely distinctive looking.

Kirkjufell is easy access to some beautiful scenery. Free admission and free parking but beware, the parking is on either side of the main route 54 and becomes crowded. Be careful. The mountain itself is beautiful and looks almost completely green. Definitely a beautiful site...More

We didn't see anyone climbing. I read that you need to hire guides. There are plenty of other beautiful places to hike!

"If "the town" is Grundarfjörður, then absolutely!" This would be my answer too. We stayed at the Framnes Hotel, a short walking distance from the mountain. Hope my information was helpfull. David

I drove in a Golf, lol :) Pretty much everywhere on the coast. Take your time and explore!
