The setting is beautiful, on a hill overlooking the lake. However, the monastery itself is nothing special and falls short compared to Sanahin monastery ( that sadly is not in TripAdvisor but is amazing and worth the drive) or to Geghard monastery

definitely worth the climb from the lake.. amazing views and the churches and the old fort ruins are a bonus.. if you are visiting the lake and are lazy enough to skip the climb, you are definitely missing out!!
