Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Havuts Tar is probably one of my top 5 favorite churches in Armenia, and I've been to a lot of them. My friend and I decided to check it out because we wanted to do a hike somewhere close to Yerevan. From the reviews I read, I wasn't expecting much from the ruins, but we were pleasantly surprised. The monastery ruins are extensive and include a huge underground room, a couple of churches, and some fantastic stone carvings. The details are absolutely beautiful. Beyond that, there's an awesome view of the river gorge. The hike itself is pretty easy if you're in decent shape. A lof of the walk there is uphill, but it's not very steep. There are some good shady spots along the way to rest if you need to.
We took a bus from Yerevan to Garni and then walked towards Havuts Tar. When we got to the gate to enter Khosrov Reserve, we told the park ranger that we wanted to see Havuts Tar (oozoom enk desnel Havuts Tar). It was 1000 dram each for Armenians and 2000 dram each for foreigners... definitely worth it! There was even a bathroom at the visitors' center. If you go to the Khosrov website, it makes it sound like you can't hike inside the park without a guide, but that's not the case.

If you have the physical ability to walk 6 kilometers in a not-so-steep trail, you should visit this site. The path to the monastey was beautiful with colorful trees and we even saw an eagle and a hawk.
The monastry has nothing special and there are a lot of garbage laying around but the church is clean and on top of a hill with amazing view over the Garni gorge. If you are lucky and have camping you will see a wonderful senset; you camp there or if you have a head lamp, you can walk back to Garni.

Havuc Tar is old half ruined monastery complex. Its quite mystic and located in calm, solitude place surrounded with pure nature. Its only about 8 km far from Garni temple, but looks very isolated
