Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Happened on the statue as we were walking around town, very impressive statue and unlike a lot of the sites in Kos, this actually had a sign of what and who this was, we got a lovely photo of the statue and it connected us to the history of the town

It's a nice statue but in the traditional Kos standard is something you stumble on a has very little information on the statue , I Wikipedia Kolokotronis and he was a Greek freedom fighter against the Ottomans , shame the plaque on the statue wasn't so informative.
I'm beginning to see a theme of Greeks not being interested in their history , its a little bit sad really as the modern world is a product of Greek intellectual thinking , maybe the thought about their history and just thought " I'm just not interested "

This staue commemorates Theodoros Kolokotronis Statue, a leader and General in the Greek War of Independence.

It is a large and impreesive and situated at an intersection with a busy road, not really in a touristy location, so could be overlooked or ignored. We only saw the staute as we drove by, certainly no in a position of prominence.

Theodoros Kolokotronis was born on the 3rd April 1770 and died on the 4th February 1843 aged 73.

He was a leading figure and leader of the Greek War of Independence which was waged from 1821–1829 against the Ottoman Empire.

In 1825, he was appointed commander-in-chief of the Greek forces in the Peloponnese.

It's a statue of a Greek national hero who led the Greek forces in the Peloponnese during the war of independence against the Ottoman Empire. He had actually been a major in the British Army serving in Zaknythos before organising the resistance in the war. No direct link to Kos that I can find other than being a national hero.

During the Greek civil war that followed he was condemned to death for treason although later pardoned. He died in Athens in 1843 one day after the wedding of one of his sons.

Numerous statues of him stand around Greece and his famous uniform and faded red helmet are displayed in the Historical Museum in Athens.

Nice statue moved from the centre of the town earlier in the year to it's position just off the main road by the main Taxi Rank which runs to the south of the city.

One of the leaders of the Greek independence against the Ottoman Empire - a national hero in Greece. You may drive past or walk past without giving the statue a look, but at least you should acknowledge his presence

Not very much to say about this really. It is a statue in the middle of a busy road junction.

There isn't much else in the area immediately around it so I woildn't come to just see this.

The road was too busy to get a photo from a decent angle.

Another photo opportunity in Kos Town and this time it's with a statue of one of Greece's national heroes. It's on the way to the Roman Odeon, so there is no need to make a special trip.

One of many nice Kolokotronis statues in Greece, but not really worth the trouble of looking for it as it’s the only thing in the area to see!?!
