Not far from Habarana. We got a jeep for 2500 rupees between 4 people. An interesting walk through the forest. The ruins are not very extensive, but worth a morning trip.

A must see place. Unbelievable work by mankind. Full of trees with medicinal value unique to its monastery. Yow will not get tired due to walk through. Hiring a local guide (Approx for Rs 1,000) is advisable as lots of history behind the place.

Firstly, this is not the monastery (there is absolutely nothing to see at the Ritigala Monastery), it is the Ritigala Archaeological Site that you should be aiming for. Secondly, don’t take the Google Map route. We Google Mapped and travelled 15 km down the Anuradhapura...More

This is a special place---a group of ruins with a "jungle feel." It is off the beaten path and does not receive the volume of visitors other sites experience. The entry fee is much less than other cultural sites (~300 rps), and the site, itself,...More

Me and my girlfriend did this beautiful walk solo without a guide, it was one of the most breathtaking treks I did my whole time in Sri Lanka. Lush jungle, not too tiring but with some exciting elements. Easy and very memorable.

When we were there there was no admission (august 2016). There is a donation box, we put some money there. They anyway need the place running.

It depends on whether you want to just walk up and walk back or if you want to sit in the beautiful forest. My wife used the opportunity to meditate and my boys and I put our feet in the little creek. We were there for 2 - 3... More
