We went there on October and were overwhelmed by the amount of elephants that we saw. All very close to us, yet they were minding their business so we got a good look at them in the wild. We also spotted an eagle, a crocodile, a lot of buffaloes and other animals. You don't have to bring binoculars (we didn't), but it may be a good idea so you can spot some of the farther ones, that are not close to the road.
