This is by no means the same experience as an African safari but great nonetheless. We saw a variety of birds, plenty of elephants (with young) and crocs in one afternoon. Knowledgeable driver/spotter is a must.

Park was good overall with lots of elephants to see, some water buffalo and other small birds. Be aware of jeep safari drivers who overcharge you, place called Compass Safari charged us 21000 lkr for two when it should have only cost approx 15,000 lkr....More

Whilst visiting the cultural triangle a visit is a must. Being at such close range to the elephant herds is a pretty unique experience that will by a life long memory that was really special.

Hello, Looking to go on a safari at Minneriya National Park on August 23rd. A couple of questions: 1. I have read reviews that the park is very crowded with jeeps, which I would like to avoid. What is the best time to go to the park with the least amount of people? 2. Can anyone reccommend a good private jeep tour? 3. About how many hours is reasonable to spend in the park?

This is a large national park the wildlife roams freely. You need to book a Jeep to get around. It is not a theme park or a zoo.
