This was my favorite beach during my trip to Puerto Vallarta. Water was very clear. We took a 45-minute bus ride to Boca de Tomatlan from downtown and hiked to Colomitos for another 30-40 minutes. If you like seafood, Boca de Tomatlan is the best spot for cheap and fresh meals! Most visitors took water taxis from Boca de Tomatlan to the beach, but if you're into fitness, the hike to Colomitos was a great activity.

Beautiful hike leaving from a pretty little town. Trail follows the coast south and goes through little pueblos, continuing on to a very remote beach. We continued past to the towns of Las Animas and Quimixto, which was a gorgeous hike, but the towns are not as remote and beautiful as going to Colomitos. Still well worth the hike though. I would estimate it's about a 45-minute hike to Colomitos and another two to three hours to Quimixto. Be sure to wear good footwear because the trail can get pretty rocky and arduous. Also, if you want to continue on past Colomitos, the trail hugs the ocean. We made the mistake of heading upland following the stream, which was pretty and got us into some deep jungle, but was very steep and eventually started to loop around back to where we started, so just make sure you stay close to the coast. Definitely not a hike to be missed. You'll love it!

We did the hike here which was harder than we thought it would be....but worth it! Unfortunately there were a few large tour boats there so the small beach was very crowded. But the colour of the water here is emerald green and so clean.

One can hike in or boat in; we hiked in, spent time on the spectacular hidden beach with a few others who either walked or boated in. There were a couple of rustic venders there with some food/drinks treats. Unique water as the edge of the bay is a mixture of fresh water entering from a steam into the salty water...feel/smells different! Protected little cove good for relaxing and swimming. If you want to add a fancy supper, plan ahead and make a reservation at Ocean Grill Restaurant which like some kind of oasis in the middle of no where serving gourmet grilled dinners with full bar, spectacular view, and a boat ride back if you request...you MAY have to pay something for the boat ride (50 pesos a person) but we managed to hop on for free...got lucky. Cash only there.

walked from Boca de Tomatlan on the natural trail -- the beach is small and was busy with swimmers and boats/water taxis in and out, but still lovely

Go early before the crowd arrives. A little further along the west sea wall is a ton of fish waiting to greet you when you snorkel, all shapes and sizes, and they're pretty friendly! Two very nice gents sell fresh fruit and drinks plus you have the ocean fish restaurant but make reservations and cash only lol. A MUST visit, but take a boat instead of risking a twisted ankle or breaking something on the trail, which is in terrible condition.

I planned to hike from Boca de Tomatlan to Las Animas beach but got sidetracked by the beautiful Colomitos cove. The hike was fun from Boca to Colomitos because you went through a fishing village before ascending into the jungle. Once you reach the beautiful cove you can dive in to cool off. The water was beautiful and it was not too crowded the day I went (a Sunday believe it or not). I realized I unfortunately did not consider the tides when I went and the high tide is why it was not crowded. As the day progressed more and more of the beach was revealed. As the tide was lower, more people arrived to enjoy the beach. Even at high tide there were lots of boulders on the sides of the beach to put our gear so we could hop in the water. We saw lots of fish so bring snorkel gear if you like to snorkel. At the point of the cove a few venders offer coconut drinks and snacks. There is also a great Ocean Grill restaurant and bar attached to a private residence a short walk from the cove.
TIPS: Bring pesos for food and drink b/c most places are cash only. I was able to Uber to Boca but Uber was not available in Boca for my return to PV...so plan to take the bus ($8 pesos) or a taxi ($180 pesos) back to PV. Water taxis are also available but not sure of the price.

We did a 45 minute hike from boca to this tiny beach, and it was really not worth it. It’s a pretty beach but since it’s so small, it gets packed easily. I’d rather take a taxi to sayulita, which has more visitors but the beach area is huge and doesn’t get cramped!

Nice and easy 45 minute hike from Boca or you can paddle over in about 20 minutes. Also, lots of water taxis can take you there.

I was so looking forward to doing this hike and discovering this “hidden beach” but along the hike we encountered quite a few people and is not a hidden gem any longer. The hundreds of visitors are not taking care of the place and it’s getting a bit trashed. Place take care our planet nonetheless is still beautiful and if you continue down the trail there are so many beaches that will take your breath away. If you chose to do the hike please remember that it is a bit challenging and wear the proper gear- Happy travels
