Tram 18/12 takes you comfortably to Carouge. On Saturdays there is a cozy market with lots of places to eat. You can also just drink a glass of wine and enjoy the atmosphere.

Nice neighborhood to walk it an hour, no more than that. Go during the market hours of the square to complete the ride. There's a little church in front. Colors in pastel tones, cobblestone streets and a market with a variety of prepared meals.

Carouge is a pleasant tram-ride from Geneva ( take no 13 or 15 )
On Saturday you might stop at Pleinpalais to see the huge flea-market and then catch the next tram to Carouge where there is another market, fine tea-rooms and a real village atmosphere to walk-in and enjoy. On Sunday morning you can sit under the chestnut trees - interesting in September - and enjoy the finest coffee and pastries in the company of local families and other visitors. An hour or two pass most pleasurably before catching the tram back into Geneva for a trip on the lake or lunch by the cathedral. This is pure pleasure.

Carouge, the good side of the city. Restaurants, theaters, cafes, vegetable market Wednesdays and Saturday. Antiquity market first Sunday of each month. Not to forget the X-May market and open boutiques on weekends in December.
Have a stroll, SIP a coffee on sunny terrace, shop at the unique boutiques. Enjoy.

What shall I tell you about the old town of Carouge? I chose to live here, I so much like its atmosphere. The best time to visit it is a Saturday night, between noon and midnight. You kick-off with a lunch at the Marché, then spend some time visiting the market, sit and taste the local wine so you understand why no one ever heard of Geneva wines. Still, they are fit for the purpose, go for it! Walking around the streets won’t take much time, unfortunately, the site is rather small, but sooo many great tiny shops! Do not miss the ice creams, try the local chocolates, cakes! The evenings are dominated by the bars, a few night clubs, great places to chill... enjoy!

Nice old town with loads of friendly people and cafes, bars and restaurants. Close to Geneva centre of town, easy to reach by public transport. Picturesque.

The bohemian district of Courage -10 minutes off the city centre is the right spot for well-appointed restaurants, stylish bars and modern boutique of local designers. Amazed seeing that this particular area is a bustling hub for the younger generation. I also remember coming across some of the best chocolate patisseries of the city. They can easily remind the visitor of those past decades, to taste the famous handmade Swiss chocolates!

The whole are is interesting architecturally with lovely buildings and quaint streets. Its a pleasure to walk around, visiting churches, buildings and off-the-beaten-track places before stopping at a nice little cafe for coffee or a brasserie for a beer of glass of wine. The pleasant squares and garden areas were a delight and a welcome relief from the hurly-burly of Geneva.

Took the bus from old Geneva to Carouge on Sunday. Only a few cafés open in the main square near church. Went inside Wolfisberg café around 4:30, we sat down and were handed menus. We decided what to order, then waitress came back and told us kitchen was closed. We went up to counter and bought pre-made lunch meat on white Wonderbread sandwiches, 10f each. Waitress came back. We asked for water and a Coke Light. (We were smiling and being sweet as possible). She gave us the hi Hitler sign and walked away. Really excessive rudeness in Switzerland. This country should start tipping to possibly make wait staff nicer. 🤨

We found our selves there by accident after taking the wrong bus. It was fantastic. Suddenly we were in a hole different area, mediteranian style housew, calmier weather, better prices in shops and food, all the shops were open even on a Sunday and the people were very polite.
