Medieval feeling and great views on Lago Maggiore are granted. If you are a lover of castles or dolls (as there's an impressive Borromeo family dolls museum inside) - that's a good choice to spend an hour or two.

In the typical Lake Maggiore village of Angera is the Rocca di Angera. A medieval castle property of the Borromeo Family who also owns the islands on the lake. It is really worth visiting it. Its rooms furniture and frescoes are very interesting. Also the historic doll museum is nice for the kids but also adults .. you can go... More

Across from Stresa lies this large castle with a high tower that affords a very nice view of the lake.

My 12 year old daughter loved the huge collection of dolls from around the world. The views were spectacular and the gardens had grapes, kiwis, pomegranates, pears and raspberries. Drive up to save your energy for walking round the castle (there is free parking at the top) and up to the Tower- it's easy to miss the door to the... More

This castle, which includes an amusing doll museum, is definitely worth a visit. When we reached the highest rooms of the castle we were amazed by the unforgettable view of Lago Maggiore. It was a sunny day and the view was one of the highlights of our trip to Italy. You can see la Rocca di Angera from many points... More

Came here with my wife and two kids (5 and 7). All of us really enjoyed the visit. The castle is really impressive and the views were great (we visited on a sunny day). The museum of dolls and toys was a nice add on but you would need to be into that to come only for that purpose ;-)... More

Let's start off with a couple of recommendations that I can provide having learned my lessons. Absolutely don't try to reach this place without a car that you own or have rented. Don't let the Arona - Angera ferry fool you: it's around three-kilometer uphill walk from the wharf. Public transportation in Italian towns doesn't seem to exist, and a... More

Visited this castle (with inside of it the museum) with two kids (5 and 3). The view is stunning, looking over Lago Maggiore and the mountains from a very high point. They have a bar that seems relatively new and the price is very acceptable (€ 1,50 for a croissant and really good espresso). The museum is not very big,... More
