Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Went here with the family on a Saturday in July and found the majority of the visitors to be Spanish locals. Accessible in car right of the main road (the beach has its own exit) or by a walking path from the city. The beach is part of a preserved area covering multiple beaches and coves. It is a beautiful area and a recommendable place, both for swimming/snorkeling/sun bathing but also for walk along the cost in unspoiled nature. Parking your car in high season is 5 EUR for the day on the very dusty parking lot. From the lot there is a few hundred meters to the beach. The beach is a sand beach, not the fine powder type of sand the grains a above average in size but still provides a great beach. As many of the other Costa Brava beaches this is not a beach that can be recommended for small children, a few meters out and the drop is more than 1 meter.
There is 2 identical restaurants serving drinks, sandwiches and a few other dishes. Prices are above the level elsewhere unfortunately without added quality. On the positive side there is a couple of toilets next to them.
The bay outside the beach is a popular anchor spot and on busy days there lots of boats everywhere of the coast.
You can rent sun bed and umbrella but I suggest you bring as much of what you need with you.
I have added a aerial photo that give a great impression of the beach and surroundings.

The previous review is very clearly of another location, because this is a beach with a single, albeit large, beach bar/restaurant. There are certainly no shops to browse! Please, Trip Advisor reviewers, if you insist on adding reviews to help others, make the effort to ensure you are adding your review to the correct location.

This beach has a large car park with a 5 Euro daily rate, and a five minute walk then brings you out at a generous sized beach with ample room, even when the car park is full.

Clean golden sand, with crystal clear water - pebbles for the first few feet and then steeply pitches onto more sand. Not great paddling for toddlers, but perfect for everyone else.

Decent sized bar/restaurant selling a good range of snacks at surprisingly good prices given the captive audience.

Well worth a visit.

We have just spent a fortnight in this lovely part of the world and visited this beach often. It is a beautiful beach - with one good beach bar and several public toilets (temporary ones what weren’t amazing but better than nothing!!). The sea is beautiful, a slight incline to get in and a bit of shingle/pebble initially but sandy after that. Some days it was very flat and calm but on others there was a yellow flag and the waves were quite big. Too big for my 3 year old but lots of children were having great fun jumping the waves. The car park is huge and we had no trouble parking even in the height of summer. Some may think 5 Euro for the day expensive but for a day at such a beautiful place well worth it! (If you arrive later in the day the cost is reduced). We totally fell in love with this beach and would really recommend it.

I visited this beach when I was about 12 and loved it. I always thought it must have been spoiled with hotels/developments but it is still a Paradise and totally undeveloped.

This beach gets very crowded, but its in the middle of a nature preserve, so its been pretty well protected from development.

There is public parking (about 5 Euros), as well as toilets, a bar and lifeguards, not to mention Kayak rentals. There are also hiking paths off into the rest of the nature preserve.

You can get to this beach by driving up the C-31 north from Palamos, and take the turning for "Castell", and follow the directions. The road will get narrower and narrower. You will get to the entrance to the parking, where the road turns into a dirt path. Its then a relatively short walk to the beach.

We visited on a gloriously sunny day and had a wonderful time.

We were a group of 10 with 4 kids between 4 and 8. The beach has lovely sand (for the med) and the entry to the sea is not steep at all.

The chair service/umbrellas, while not cheap, were well worth the investment. And the restaurants weren't cheap either but the food was really good. Really, the beach is that good that it could have cost 4 times the price and we still would have considered it a great day out.

We walked from our hotel in Llafranc to Platja de Castell, which took around two hours but took in some lovely scenery along the coastal paths between Llafranc and Calella de Palafrugell, as well as on the forest paths between Cap Roig botanical gardens and the beach itself.

Although the beach was relatively busy when we visited (a Thursday in early July), it seems big enough not to be too crowded even in the peak months; and the lack of development around the beach lends it a more serene, relaxing quality than other beaches. Best of all, this is a sandy beach -- so there's no stumbling over slime-covered stones or cutting your feet on jagged rocks!

Lovely beach that goes for miles with nice soft golden sand and warm 28C sea temperature. Plenty of cafes and tapas bars along side for a drink or a snack. Could easily be a day on the beach.

Unspoilt by modern development, but lacking nothing in facilities, you can hire a sun lounger (€6 per day at the time of writing) and and an umbrella if you like, and there are two small snack bars which are reasonably priced. The only toilets are of the Portaloo kind, but they are perfectly adequate. Parking is normally €5 per day so it's wasteful to go for less than a few hours. Best to make a day of it.
The beach is south-facing so it gets the sun all day and is one of the few in this area where you don't have to negotiate either steps or a steep slope on your way from the car park.
At the water's edge, the sand slopes fairly steeply, so you can swim within just a few yards of the beach, and the whole bay is nicely sheltered. It's perfect for swimming and snorkelling.
If you get bored with sea and sand, you can visit the remains of an ancient Iberian settlement on the headland to the East of the bay or, for a longer walk, head West on the GR92 footpath to La Fosca or Palamos.
At the western end of the beach there is small area of sand which is cut off from the main beach by a narrow, rocky ridge. Here you may dispense with swimwear altogether if you prefer to get back to nature.

A small crescent beach, nice sand. Old Iberian ruins off to one side and start of a hiking trail to the north. Parked in the close lot, there is a large overflow lot a little farther away. "No dog" signs ignored by local who let their hounds loose off leash, Water still warm enough for a dip in early October.
