We took a guided tour of the reserve and saw lots of birds, fish and other wild life. The boat in the mangroves themselves was paddled by the guide, and it was amazingly quiet and peaceful.

Many, many birds. If you have a knee or back problem I would not recommend going. The wooden board for sitting makes it very difficult.

This was a wonderful trip through the mangroves. We were not warned about the mosquitos though. Make sure you take spray and cover your arms and legs and neck. We saw lots of birds and we had a nice time. Our guide was very good.

It's a nice island, with diversity of birds, mainly built on manglers, the guides are working hard to reforest it and bring biodiversity back. Nice place to learn about nature

We shared a taxi from Bahia to the reserve with another couple. The reserve's guide showed us the shrimp farm harvesting the shrimp, on our way to the boat. He was Spanish only speaking, but fortunately one of the people with us helped with translating,...More

A great half day trip from Bahia de Caraquez is this island of mangroves and birds----lots of birds!! They took us on a motorized boat to the island, then in a canoe to get close to the birds without disturbing then. Our guide pointed out...More

Bahia de Caraquez is the safest place in Ecuador. You can walk the streets day and night and feel welcome anywhere. This sandy peninsula was Ecuador's best kept secret for many years by the wealthy people of the country... More
