This imposing 9+ metres high monument dominates a plateau on the outskirts of Dol de Bretagne - a testament to the skill and cultural sophistication of the early neolithic civilisation who lived and celebrated life on the Armorican massif. Apparently, the stone weighs about 120...More

If you are in the area I would recommend a visit. The menhir is worth seeing although I wouldn't suggest making a special trip there from any distance away as there is literally the menhir and that's it! But still worth seeing.

Great to see and enjoyed the connection with the nearby cathedral, albeit a legend. We enjoyed the visit to the area.

Not far off the main road with a small lay-by car park. Very impressive up close and lots of good photo opportunities. Definitely Worth a visit if in the area.

This extraordinary menhir is a really spiritual stone - standing alone in the landscape it inspires as much awe as a cathedral. One cannot help but wonder how it was put in position so long ago by people with primitive methods of moving these huge...More

The poor thing is all by itself out in the field in the middle of no where. Such an oddity really. It is very big (100 tonnes), tall (9.5 meters), slender, and a rather curious shape. Made of pinkish granite....use to have a cross on...More

Had to share our visit with a cycling group having their noisy lunch, but never have we seen such a huge menhir - must be nearly 30ft high. Of course, with it goes a story, all explained on a notice board at the site.

One of the largest menhirs in Bretagne at 9.3 meters high. Solitary on a hill, well signposted on the D795 from Dol-de-Bretagne to Combourg . Explanation only in French, but the story is that with every death in the world the stone sinks imperceptibly lower....More

Strangely understated and spectacular all at the same time. It's a large stone at the edge of a field. Just gets the mind going as to why. Glad I took the very small detour to visit.
