We saw the entrance to the Gorge from our cruise ship. But there is an even better view from the White Emperor City, Baidicheng if your cruise ship offers this as a tour option.

A good photograph is to hold up the 10 Yuan note in the foreground with the Gorge in the background. We did!

If my photo suggestion was a good one, please give me a “Helpful” vote. Thank you :-)

On a Viking River cruise of the Yangtze River, our ship sailed into Qutang Gorge in China. It was very beautiful. We had to transfer to a smaller sightseeing vessel for a cruise into the exquisite Lesser Three Gorges. These had a series of limestone ridges that appeared to climb out of the fog and mist. We felt like we were part of a painting. We saw wild monkeys on the rocks and lots of caves so high that you wonder how people ever discovered them. Quite a treat to be able to see the lush, mist enshrouded mountains.

This gorge has some great views of the river and lots of places to be able to walk. Good views all around.

The Qutang Gorge provides the most stunning views of all the Gorges with cliffs rising up in the sky to over 1000 meters, seeing Eagles flying over head looking for fish in the water with all types of water traffic. The scenery along this boat cruise will take your breath away simply gorgeous

This was the first gorge of the three when beginning in Chongqing. The Qutang Gorge is the most beautiful of the three. Make sure you are on deck.

Photos do not do this river cruise justice, through this section of the Three Gorges in China ..It is breathtaking. We boarded a cruise boat that held about 150 tourists. The cruise lasted about 3 hours. We saw Reeces monkeys scampering over the rocks adjacent to the gorge. Weirs to catch catfish , sampans, as well as sites of the hanging coffins of the Ba people.

Yes the scenery is nice but nothing spectacular.

Lots of mist in the area from time to time.

The history associated with the place is quite interesting and I found it sad to loose so much culture and heritage to make way for progress I.e. the dam and hydro electricity. Caused 300 feet of flooding along the banks.

This is the first of the three gorges on the Yangtze. It is about five miles long and not very impressive.

When traversing the river, you don't have a choice but to go through this area.

This was the final gorge before heading into Chongquing. We enjoyed the scenery and the weather as we cruised along. Again, a highlight of our China trip

Qutang Gorge is the shortest and most scenic of China's Three Gorges (Qutang, Wu and Xiling). It's located downstream from the ancient village Baidicheng (白帝城) the Yangtze River passes between the Chijia Mountain (赤甲山) on the north and the Baiyan Mountain (白鹽山) on the south. Many people take The White Emperor City tour here.

To be honest I was least interested about the Gorge and more interested of the scenery that this part of the Yangtze River had to offer. Expect all sorts of weather on this front, the scenery is amazing, the fog and mist add characteristics to the surroundings and view.

It's an absolute shame that the construction of these gorges led to many villages and cities submerged under water let alone the catastrophic impact on the environment along the riverfront. Yangtze River Dolphin was declared extinct in 2007, Chinese Alligators and Sturgeons are on the endangered list even though local conservations have been set up to help save the species.
