Amazing place to visit, if you are interested in the martial arts, this is the place of Kung fu, take the tour in the mountain Songshan, and be amazed with the views.

We visited the Shaolin Temple and Kung Fu school as part of a 1-day CTrip tour from Xian. It took about an hour for our driver to get from the Longmen Grottoes to the Temple. You drive through some pretty rural areas to get there,...More

This is a another Disneyland. Masterpiece of Chinese marketing and promotion. Almost everything there is artificial. The temple itself was built in 2005 on the site of 495 A.D. structure. There are very few real things left from the past. The place is a typical...More

If you are in a nearby city such as Luoyang I would recommend a visit but I would not make a special trip. It is a nice temple but very similar to many temples in China. If you are especially interested in Kung Fu that...More

At the bottom of the mountain, it's a small temple, very busy in peak time and slippery in rain, be careful. No dress code. Next to it there is a monk cemetery and way to the mountain - that's a must to go up as...More

This destination has all that I would normally love but, despite a miserable chilly rain, it was overcrowded with visitors, making it far less enjoyable and rewarding.

The site is quite big, specially if you plan to go to the scenic area, on top of the mountain. if that is the case, take a full day for that; if it is not, you will still need around 3/4h to explore the whole...More

The temple itself is like any other temple in China. The Llama temple in Beijing is an architectural twin to this one. The history here is impressive and if you like martial arts it is more interesting. The live show is worth seeing. Make sure...More

If you are visiting with spiritual bend of mind, it is best avoided. It is too touristy, too crowded and at best an average scenic area. The martial arts show is catered to the tourists.

Shaolin Temple in Dengfeng is situated in a very picturesque valley with majestic mountains as the backdrop. There is a theatre where Kung Fu shows are held every hour. The temple itself is very old and mysterious. The temple is 2 kilometer from the road...More

The Shaolin show is definitely suitable for a 6 y/o and there are quite a few young kids amongst the performers. The theater is small and packed. Shows are booked in advance and it is advisable to start queuing for your... More

Hello, if the main idea is to study Kung fu, near the temple is a hotel where you can stay. The problem is that there is not much to do besides the temple. I think the easiest thing is to stay in Luoyang, from there taking a... More

Hi snorkel-luvin. Nope you won't get lost! The mountain is just past the pagoda forest (which isn't a real forest but rather like a park with lots of pagodas commemorating the previous abbots). But I also agree with... More
