This path sounds lovely though right now the entrance to the parking lot is closed and posted signs say aquarium staff only. We did see a mother and baby deer walk by at the closed road so I think nature is enjoying a summer without tourists. We just went up the road to the Hoop Pole Creek Nature Trail in Atlantic Beach. The trailhead is in the parking lot of the Food Lion/Bojangles, just by the coffee shop. 1 mile round trip with some short trails. We look forward to trying again when it is safe to open the aquarium.

The TR natural area covers 298 acres. It is FREE and you enter the trail at the back of the NC aquarium parking lot in Pine Knoll Shores. I left my rolling walker in the SUV and took just my cane and my stubborn streak with me. I had my photo taken with the "end of trail" sign. This was an accomplishment for me. There are 4 benches on the trail, the first one is at the entrance. It is a nice little hike.

Lots of views and vista, water birtds in a variety of settings, typical coastal NC vegetation. Definitely worth the hour plus spent in an easy in-out walk. Some bugs, but not bad the day we did it. Recommended for practically everyone.

We followed the trail behind the aquarium and it was a fun little adventure, not too many people on the trail on the hot and humid day. The bugs were what I would expect them to be as the trail is adjacent to a maritime forest-make sure to apply bug spray before you head out. The floating bridge was the most fun part and we all went over a few times to try our luck to try and not get wet. Wish we had time to explore this trail a little more.

Nice walking trails by the Pine Knolls Aquarium. You can see the maritime forest and an occasional critter. Easy & clean
