About

The Alberico Square is surrounded by buildings of illustrious and ancient noble families of Carrara.
The square, paved with squared marble pebbles to form ten large decorative squares, has a fountain in its center, with a marble tub and lion, surmounted by a large statue (executed in 1827 by the sculptor Carrarese Pietro Fontana) of the Duchess Maria Beatrice d'Este standing on a high pedestal decorated with bas-reliefs.
A real pity is that many shops in the surrounding streets have left the city and the area looks like a ghost town with many shops for sale or for rent.

A nice spot to rest and eat while walking around Carrara. Several nice cafes, and a store offering tours to marble quarries.

A nice square in the middle of the small and peaceful town of Carrara. Of course the marble is the main object here, as everywhere in Carrara. A few restaurants and shops - we expected a bit more...

Very typical Italian piazza with colourful classic buildings and a contemporary sculpture used by kids as a slide. Pleasant.

The best place in Italy. We stop for 15 min and spend 4 hours. It's interesting just go and look around there. Not much tourist and that's great!

Are you tired with crowds of Pisa or Florence? Visit Carrara. Pretty, colorful, authentic Tuscan town. Its heart is nice square called Piazza Alberica. I really liked it.

A nice setting in an ancient city. A piazza in white marble with views of the white marble quarries just above.
