Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a beautiful place to be for an evening stroll along the seafront enjoying the sea breeze and sunset. Well paved walkway. Children with skate boards and bicycles playing along the way. It's a relaxing place.
The centre where the shopping mall is with the quayside for the yachts may not be as attractive as other large shopping malls in Penang. But there are a lot of restaurants which face the quay for one to choose from. However, these are not what attracted me. The calm sea, the extended view of the mainland on the other side of the coastal line, and the gentle breeze charm me to this place.

This is the first time I've ever been to marina, and I'm loving it. It seems a nice place for biking and jogging. The beautiful yachts and sunset view, the evening walk with the smell of sea breeze, everything becomes pieces of my unforgettable memories in Penang.

Awesome place, the view was amazing we enjoyed our stay , there are groceria near by and many fine dine restaurants and bars. Night view are amaizing as well. Inside of the mall some of the shop lots are quiet empty and its like very limited shop's.

It's new & clean, nicely maintained as well with lots of eateries, most of which were upscale and catering towards Western tourist.
Nothing much to do except to take a walk by the marina.
Very hot in the afternoon though, with not much shade if you want to walk by the marina.

I live near Straits Quay and it is well designed with a pleasant outlook and nice design. A number of retail shops have not lasted long and some that are there are courting closure. Healy Mac's pub has the right formula and is always full. Several other food outlets are good but struggling. The arrival of Sam's Grocery recently is a major boost to the area although they are not in the same league as Cold Storage or Tescos. The 24 hour Xtreme Fitness gym is a major disappointment.....when it opened it was buzzing with classes etc....now there is no classes and very unfriendly staff who don't value customers and the gym has a lot of broken equipment. It would seem that food outlets are the best businesses currently for the complex that has already a good range of coffee shops.
Currently the complex is well maintained and they have some good promotions. The New Years fireworks display seems to be the best in town.

Nice place. Close proximity to all the shops and a wonderful water front.

Downsides are

The water is way to shallow. A bit scary piloting the boat in.
At one stage....3.5feet!

no refueling capacities.

And not enough berthing spaces.

That's dangerous for boats with smaller fuel tanks

But the people are nice and helpful.

Lots of shopping around here.

I guess this gives this place a 3 to 4 star only

They will need to beef up this place if they want to attact more boats.

But overall pretty pleasant experience.

We were at a wedding banquet at the Straits Quay Convention Centre last night. The usual 8-course dinner was catered by the E & O Hotel. What are delight it was for my wife and I when we saw the menu as it was identical to our wedding banquet menu at the E&O 6 years ago.

Unfortunately, none of the courses tasted the same, not even the signature roast duck. We were disappointed with the taste and quality of the food from the 1st course right through to the 8th.

Even the golden sands prawns has lost its shine. The fish was sadly not fresh. The duck was stiff. The rice was tasteless we needed more soy sauce. Even the mango sago dessert was not up to par.

We're also not sure why "beer girls" with pouches hung around their waists were allowed to "push" drinks to guests at an E&O owned property. It was kinda out of place.

The only consolation for the evening's dining experience however was that the service at our table was good.

And very difficult to get cab from here and taxi drivers are taking advantage from tourist by charging extra no metered taxi all fixed fare. DO GO THERE!!

There's a free shuttle from most of the hotels in Batu Ferringhi (and also Tenjung Bahang) to Straits Quay mall, which you can also get to by the Rapid Penang bus n.102 - or taxi, if you like. The mall is quite new, but we couldn't find that many interesting shops there. Compared to Gurney Plaza or Gurney Paragon this mall is a lot worse. There's a Tesco supermarket nearby, though.
