We caught this ferry from Butterworth. There was a bus shuttle taking us to the ferry terminal and we paid a small sum of RM$1.20 for a ticket across. There is only a charge one way, it is free to return. The ferry takes passengers...More

No trip to Penang Island and Georgetown would be complete without a ride on the Penang ferry. This inexpensive ferry is still a popular and integral part of the public transport network and is used by many people and vehicles to get across the causeway...More

It's a bit of a hassle to catch the ferry, but if you have time, and if the lines aren't long, and the weather is good and you like a nice sea breeze, it's a good option. There is a walking path (over a walking...More

Committed to public transit, we probably wouldn't have opted for the taxi to Georgetown. Having said that, it was a bit brutal, especially after a night train from Bangkok, immigration at the border and a two hour commuter train ride. At that point, we just...More

Had to wait in line for an hour just to get to the front-line, another twenty minutes to be in the ferry itself. I take the ferry often when I'm in Penang, but sometimes the line is just too ridiculous

Forget about taking the ferry to Penang if you are in a hurry. Very long waiting time. We waited for more than one hour just to get into the ferry considering its a Thursday. Its going to be the last time we are using the...More

If you take the ETS to Butterworth, this is the nearest and cheapest transport to Penang. The only problem is the long walk from the trains to the ferry terminal. There is a van that picks up passengers - senior citizens only, to & fro...More

If you have never been on a ferry and will not be coming to Penang after this, please be extra patience to bear with the long queuing time. Or else, skip the ferry and use the Penang bridges instead.

I would suggest all family people to choose Direct flight rather than ferry as the travel is dependent on weather and Langkawi has unpredictable whether and ferry is less comfortable than flight with almost the cost
