Do not take ferry. Waste of your time waiting for ferry. Each waiting is like 30mins and they only have like 2 ferries running. We waited for 2 hours and the ferry service was suck! Operator sucks. The sea is dirty and the ferry is poorly maintain. Don't waste time even if it is free.

Came up to Butterworth and back by train from Singapore. So took the ferry out to Georgetown and back. Yes there is a steep climb up and down steps from the rail station to the ferry terminal, but this senior citizen and his senior wife had no problems coping with their luggage. Just a few minutes to the ticket stop... More

On Pengkalan Weld between two bus stations is an open air shopping arcade leading to the ferry connecting Georgetown with Butterworth on mainland. The first leg is free and you pay 1,2 rm returning, the shuttle operates weekdays from 5.30 am to 1.00 am and weekends 24 h. There are several similar ferries so at peak hour even three can... More

Took the ferry from Georgetown to Butterworth, which was free. On the return trip the fare was RM1.20 which you had to have in exact change. That was fine except that because of the outdated machine, you could only use old coins and not the new gold colour ones. I didn't have the right coins so the worker took coins... More

It is an interesting means of transport to and from the various islands of Malaysia. Kindly note that it is not mandatory to book your luggage as we saw after boarding the ferry that most of the people were carrying their luggage in the ferry itself whereas we made a mistake by booking the same and paying a steep price... efficient service, and a great cheap way to get out on the water for a few minutes. Free to go to Butterworth - small charge to return

The ferry service is priced the same as the toll bridges. It makes it easy for people in Central Georgetown to get to the mainland [and, visa versa]. The ferries run more often in the morning and evening and are well used by locals. Very worthwhile to get great views of Georgetown.

Less frequent trips from mainland to island making waits longer at the jetty. And i guess they have slowed down the speed of the ferries as well..

I am appalled by the awful ferry services these days. They cut down 1 ferry last year. Now during peak hrs. There are only 3 ferries. It work should work out to about 20 mins intervals. But this is only a myth. On two occasions the ferry took more then 30 mins to arrived. I missed my ETS train to... More

Dont know either want to recommend to use this service or not ... But, if you re first time to use this ferry, just go for it.. either else, you can use Penang Bridge to go to Penang Island... We went there during school holidays, but at that time it was on Monday . Surprisingly, it was a long queue.... More
