VB Visit
Sep. 2019 • Couples
Lovely town. Castle is well worth a visit. Be aware that not all parts are accessible yet as it is still under construction. (plus it's free)
If you get a chance, do visit the Indalo man etchings. All in all, a lovely little town to visit.

Magnificent views from such a commanding location
Jul. 2019 • Couples
No charge to enter, this is mainly the structure of the castle with little in the way of furnishings etc as they're in a museum in New York (if memory serves) but it is still very interesting to see. It is open before & after siesta time, there are a few items that you can buy as keepsakes and toilet facilities. It can be accessed by road or by walking up the hill through the narrow streets below it. If you have them, take your binoculars with you as it's a great place from which to spot prey birds soaring in the endlessly blue skies.

Incredible views and fascinating history
Apr. 2019 • Couples
What an amazing castle and such history. A guide is a must to learn about it all, it also has the most spectacular views.

Motorcycle Ride-Out
Mar. 2019 • Friends
Riding into Velez-Blanco you are confronted with a stunning little village tumbling down the hillside from the Castle towering above. The road up to the castle through the town is very steep and not one to welcome any oncoming traffic. Continue your ride up and thorough the archway into the castle grounds. Park up and admire the views over the valley to distant hills. The castle is open and you may wish to spend a hour wandering through the battlements. In leaving the castle make sure you take the 8Km ride up through the pass to Maria. It's simply fantastic.

Amazing Views
Mar. 2019 • Friends
The Castillo is set high on the hill, and looks fabulous as you approach it. The lady opened up for us (I think they closed at 2pm for siesta) and made us welcome. We wandered around this small castle, exploring the various rooms. The views are fabulous. In the courtyard, you can use a QR code, which links to a video showing you how the castle looked originally, and the completed and proposed restoration works. Very interesting.
Definitely worth a visit.

History and views
Jul. 2018
This is a great place to see the wonderful views and see how the building is being brought back to life .
You wouldn’t need more than 2 hours to see everything ,it’s very remote so take plenty of fluids there aren’t head phones telling you the history and not a lot in any other language other than Spanish ,there is a toilet near the reception area and there’s plenty of steps and not good under foot not wheelchair or pushchair friendly .but fantastic views .

Restoration in progress

There are 2 ways to get to the castle - the first is to walk up through the town and then climb the steps, the second way to is to drive (do not take the turn off to the town, take the exit marked with a pink sign El Castillo which takes you straight to the castle where there is a cafe at the bottom of the ramp).

Closed Monday & Tuesday.
1st Apr - 30th Sept, Wednesday to Sunday, 10.00 - 14.00 & 17.00 - 20.00
1st Oct - 31st Mar, Wednesday to Sunday, 10.00 - 14.00 & 16.00 - 18.00
However the lady did not arrive until 10.30am so be patient about opening times!

It is still free - shame, as they could at least charge a nominal €1 for entry but we did buy a few bits in the very small gift shop (or rather gift desk) but access is not easy for those who are not very mobile as the ground is still rocky and not fully renovated.

Altiplano Camera Club visit
Feb. 2018 • Friends
We visited this site in February , it had snowed the previous day but for our visit the sun was shining and very pleasant . The car park is quite large and then a slope up to the Castillo inside is an area where you can get souvenirs and information there is also in a room to the side a model of the Castillo as it was, also information on the Castillo but unfortunately not in English you can then go further up and take some good pictures of the view, there aren’t any artifacts as they were sold to a family abroad and they now are in a museum in New York but it’s still a good place to visit and it’s free to enter

Castillo sunset visit. Relax, cool down, enjoy.

If you have little (or big) action adventure film fans with wild imaginations in your household don't miss an opportunity to visit this Spanish Castle. Castillo de Vélez-Blanco is in great condition, visit at dusk for spectacular views over Los Vélez and towards the Region of Murcia.
